Position Summary: |
THIS POSITION IS LOCATED AT EGLIN AFB, FL. The University of Dayton Research Institute is seeking to hire an entry-level Explosive Testing Engineer for the High Explosives Research and Development (HERD) facility’s Energetic Materials Technology Section, AFRL/RWMED to support Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) of energetic materials. Individual will aid senior and mid-level scientists and engineers in planning and executing research activities. Interacts with other engineering groups to define, document, analyze, test, and interpret tests for products, systems, components, or modifications. Identifies functional problems and suggests resolutions. Assists in the definition of internal quality control standards and the maintenance of reliability programs. Analyzes test cases and provides regular progress reports. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. |
Minimum Qualifications: |
Minimum Qualifications for P1: BS in an engineering field, math, or physical science. Familiar with a broad range of engineering principles, including mechanical and/or electrical engineering, optics, chemistry, physical, and mechanical property testing. Experience working in a research laboratory environment. Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required. Candidate must be able to obtain a SECRET level security clearance.
Minimum Qualifications for P2: BS in an engineering field, math, or physical science with at least 3 years of related experience. Familiar with a broad range of engineering principles, including mechanical and/or electrical engineering, optics, chemistry, physical, and mechanical property testing. Experience working in a research laboratory environment. Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required. Candidate must be able to obtain a SECRET level security clearance

Preferred Qualifications P1: Experience working with energetic materials, experience studying auto-initiation preferred. Familiarity with high speed cameras, high speed test equipment. Proficiency with test planning and test methods. Knowledge of pneumatic systems. Familiarity in the area of designing and/or building experiments to answer technical questions. Ability to conduct multiple research projects and tasks occurring simultaneously. Strong technical communication skills (oral and written). Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to balance competing priorities effectively. Experience using CAD software for component design. Has an active security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications P2: Graduate degree in engineering field or physical science. Mechanical engineering preferred. Experience working with energetic materials, experience studying auto-initiation preferred. Experience with high speed cameras, high speed test equipment. Experience with test planning and test methods. Must be capable of working in a laboratory environment, position requires knowledge of chemical safety practices, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Experience working with pneumatic systems. Experience designing and/or building experiments to answer technical questions. Ability to conduct multiple research projects and tasks occurring simultaneously. Strong technical communication skills (oral and written). Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to balance competing priorities effectively. Experience using CAD software for component design.
