Reporting to the Director of Research Accounting, the Associate Director of Research Accounting performs moderately-complex to complex accounting activities in accordance with accounting principles and standards to control the organization's financial resources and ensure that it complies with all relevant regulations, laws, and reporting requirements. The Associate Director of Research Accounting is responsible for the day-to-day management of processes in the general ledger, maintenance of accurate and reconciled accounts, and for accurate financial reporting at a cost center, Division, or business unit level. This position will develop, execute, and analyze control reports to ensure all accounts and projects are fully reconciled on a monthly basis. This position will reconcile complex accounts and check the accuracy of journal entries to ensure general ledger is in accordance with accounting principles and reporting schedules so that the organization has a full and accurate statement of its financial position. This position will check and analyze financial information and prepare financial reports and accounting statements to provide senior management accurate and timely information for making financial decisions. The Associate Director of Research Accounting will provide technical accounting advice and training to functional or operational area managers to help them understand financial reports and manage their financial responsibilities. This position will provide leadership and mentorship to all Research Accounting functions to support developing employees and resolving complex issues as required. In concert with the Director of Research Accounting, this position will identify, develop, and implement business process and system improvements to better support UDRI’s research & development operations. This position will complete other duties as assigned. |
Minimum Qualifications: |
1. Bachelor's degree in accounting
2. Minimum of 12 years of demonstrated experience in accounting
3. Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
4. Demonstrated experience identifying and implementing process improvements
5. Proven experience with reconciling large accounts and/or intercompany transactions.
6. Advanced level skills with Microsoft Excel, and intermediate level skills with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, as well as Adobe Pro
7. Three years of supervisory and leadership experience
8. Due to the nature of the work, U.S. citizenship is required.
9. Demonstrates effective verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications: |
1. Master’s degree
2. Active CPA or CMA license
3. Experience with Government contracting and/or sponsored research administration
4. Experience with Deltek Costpoint
5. Four years of supervisory experience
6. Demonstrated ability to be in trust of highly sensitive data
7. Familiarity with payroll processes
8. Ability to make independent and evaluative judgments
9. Three or more years of experience analyzing financial data
10. Strong interpersonal skills
11. Demonstrated attention to detail and critical thinking skills
