Position Summary:      

The Painter, VI prepares and paints construction and maintenance projects.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Smooth surfaces using sandpaper, brushes, or steel wool and remove old paint from surfaces, using paint remover, scraper, wire brush, or blowtorch to prepare surfaces for painting;
  • Fill nail holes, cracks and joints with putty, plaster, or other filler;
  • Select pre-mixed paints, or mix required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors;
  • Paint surfaces using brushes, spray gun or paint rollers.  Simulate wood grain, marble, brick or tile effects.  Apply paint with cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers to create special effects;
  • Prepare and cover interior walls and ceilings of rooms with decorative wallpaper or fabric;
  • Erect scaffolding or set up ladders to perform tasks above ground level.  Keep work areas neat and clean;
  • May provide instruction and guidance to Painter’s Helper;
  • Perform duties assigned as a member of the Fire Brigade;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Experience & Educational Background:

  • High School Diploma and 3 years of experience in the painting field is required. 
  • Construction industry experience is preferred.
  • Valid State driver’s license is preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Must possess the strength and dexterity needed to perform the job and the physical ability to move equipment as necessary;
  • Must adhere to operational safety rules and regulations as deemed by the University;
  • Must be able to follow directives and possess good communication skills and ability to interact with building/office occupants effectively;
  • Respirator Fit Testing may be required.

Salary Range:

  • Salary Range : Grade 6 1199 New Hire rate:$26.14 and 1199 One Year of Service rate $26.67
