Position Summary:

The Foundations and Grants Manager will be responsible for providing focused, professional, proactive, and logistical support to all aspects of the fundraising efforts at Cardozo School of Law. The position’s key role is to lead and implement a strategic development plan focused on fundraising through foundations and grants, with an emphasis on generating funds for Cardozo’s experiential clinical programming. This position will oversee the complete giving cycle of foundation relations: discovery, engagement, cultivation, solicitation, gift negotiation, and stewardship. With the goal of cultivating targeted funding opportunities through foundational gifts of $10,000 and above, this individual will serve as a key member of a dynamic team to help Cardozo reach its fundraising goals.

This employee will interface with the Dean of the Law School, board members, prospective and current donors, volunteers, students, alumni, foundation board members, parents of students, parents of alumni, faculty, deans, and all levels of administration.

Cardozo School of Law is currently in year four of a University-wide comprehensive campaign. The law school has raised over $40M towards its $50M goal in honor of the school’s 50th anniversary in 2026. The Office of Institutional Advancement spearheads this campaign, and this position will have an integral part of the final years of the campaign and its success.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for planning, managing, and implementing activities that increase, diversify, and sustain foundational philanthropic support for Cardozo. Prioritize fundraising efforts through research on prospective foundations, draft LOIs and grant proposals, prepare materials for other fundraisers attending prospect meetings with foundations staff and the Dean of the Law School, and participate in strategy sessions to target and communicate with donors and organizations.
  • Successfully meet fundraising goals by identifying and personally working with foundation prospects. Construct and manage a portfolio with the goal of $2 million in asks each fiscal year. Develop long-term relationships with these individuals and cultivate their philanthropic interest in Cardozo.
  • Conduct a minimum of 50 (will increase to 100 in FY26) personal contacts annually to cultivate and solicit prospects and close gifts. Reach or surpass personal, annual fundraising goals created by the Associate Dean of IA.
  • The Foundations and Grants Manager will also assist the Individual Giving and Stewardship Manager on stewardship activities for foundations, such as coordination of acknowledgment letters and impact reports. Responsibilities include writing and editing grant reports, faculty correspondence, and foundation research.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for the department with foundations and foundation staff and as such, exercise independent judgment and discretion in handling issues directly or determining alternate actions.
  • Will be in continual contact with foundations and constituents, whether it be following up on a gift, inviting a constituent to an event, addressing a question or problem, and participating in solicitations via phone calls and email.
  • Actively maintain a current body of knowledge about Cardozo and its development priorities; develop a thorough understanding of the programs and aspirations of the law school.
  • Work in a highly collaborative environment. Members of the Institutional Advancement team engage with nearly every department within the law school such as senior administrators, faculty members, the Office of Communications, the Office of Career Services, the Office of Student Affairs, and more.
