Position Summary:          

Yeshiva University announces its proposed new DDS program and is hiring new faculty and staff to support the school. The curriculum will integrate Digital Dentistry techniques to be taught by today’s dental thought leaders and master clinicians.  The school plans to provide a unique 36-month dental education program through an innovative “Block” style curriculum, which will ensure in-depth learning and understanding.  Please join this new and innovative proposed DDS program.

The Director of Periodontics is responsible for coordinating and delivering periodontal education within the dental school, with a primary focus on clinical instruction, curriculum implementation, and student competency development in periodontics and related surgical care. This position supports the integration of periodontal principles into the predoctoral curriculum and ensures that instruction and patient care are grounded in evidence-based, patient-centered practices.

The Director provides direct supervision and instruction to students in periodontal diagnosis, treatment planning, and clinical execution, including non-surgical and surgical periodontal procedures. The role emphasizes appropriate case selection, consistent clinical standards, accurate documentation, and adherence to institutional policies to support high-quality patient care and effective clinical education.  Reporting to the Director of Clinical Education, the Director of Periodontics collaborates with clinical faculty, course directors, and staff to promote consistency in teaching, evaluation, and clinical expectations. The position contributes to faculty calibration, supports continuous improvement of periodontal instruction, and assists in maintaining compliance with accreditation requirements related to clinical education and patient care.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Integrated Didactic and Clinical Instruction: Provide coordinated didactic and clinical instruction using mastery-based, evidence-driven teaching approaches that actively engage learners and integrate biomedical science principles into patient-centered prosthodontic and restorative care.
  • Clinical and Educational Documentation: Ensure complete, accurate, and timely documentation of patient care, learner performance, and instructional activities in accordance with institutional policies, accreditation standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Curriculum Development and Oversight: Design, implement, and assess the periodontics curriculum, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards and integration into the dental school’s academic program.
  • Clinical Training and Supervision: Lead clinical training in periodontics, guiding students in diagnostic techniques, treatment planning, and advanced periodontal procedures.
  • Patient Care and Treatment Standards: Develop and maintain protocols for periodontal and surgical care, ensuring patient safety, quality outcomes, and adherence to best practices.
  • Faculty and Student Development: Mentor and support faculty and students in periodontics, fostering skill development, professional growth, and academic success.
  • Research and Innovation: Promote and support research initiatives in periodontics, contributing to the advancement of the field through scholarly activity and innovation.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to integrate periodontics into interdisciplinary care and comprehensive treatment planning.
  • Resource and Equipment Management: Oversee the allocation and maintenance of equipment and materials for periodontal education and practice, ensuring availability and efficiency.
  • Community Engagement and Outreach: Develop programs to promote oral health education and periodontal care within the community, addressing disparities and improving access to care.

Experience & Educational Background:

  • DDS/DMD or equivalent degree from a CODA-accredited institution.
  • Certificate from a CODA-accredited Advanced Education Program in Periodontics.
  • Board Certification by the American Board of Periodontology (ABP).
  • Eligibility for dental licensure in New York State.
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in Periodontics, including patient care, academic teaching, and curriculum development.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical education support, faculty practice oversight, and compliance with CODA and institutional accreditation standards.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, FERPA, OSHA, and laws/regulations pertaining to the practice of dentistry in New York State.
