 Position Summary:

The Director of Graduate Enrollment Management provides strategic and operational leadership for the graduate enrollment enterprise. This Director is responsible for shaping and executing a cohesive enrollment strategy that encompasses prospective student advising, admissions, enrollment communications, application processing, and inquiry-to-enrollment conversion. The unit works seamlessly with the Executive Director of Recruitment and Partnerships to develop and yield a pipeline of highly qualified students for programs across the school’s portfolio of graduate and professional programs.

The Director leads a dedicated team defined by high standards, a commitment to student success, and a culture of collaboration. This is a highly visible role that services multiple campuses and disciplines, engaging with academic leaders, faculty, and staff throughout the enrollment cycle.

This is an on-site position. Periodic evening and weekend availability is expected during key points in the admissions cycle as well as some travel required to support team recruitment activities and campus engagement.

Position Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, this role has the following responsibilities:

Strategic Enrollment Leadership

  • Lead enrollment forecasting— including funnel projections, program mix assumptions, scholarship strategy, and net tuition estimates — and contribute to the school’s annual budget planning process, collaborating with the Executive Director of Recruitment and Partnerships on recruitment activity assumptions.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators across the portfolio, including inquiries, applications, admits, deposits, and enrollments, using conversion and yield patterns to guide operational decisions and surface strategic risks or opportunities.
  • Monitor market conditions, competitor activity, and enrollment trends to recommend strategic adjustments and maintain competitive program positioning.
  • Partner with Marketing and Communications on campaign planning and program positioning, ensuring the team provides timely, accurate program information to support messaging across digital, social, direct mail, and related channels. Providing feedback from frontline interactions is essential for shaping programs, messaging, and outreach.
  • Build relationships with academic leaders, faculty, and administrative partners across the University to support enrollment strategy, program positioning, and student engagement.

Student Engagement and Enrollment Communications

  • Oversee prospective student advising and engagement from inquiry through deposit, ensuring a responsive, informed, and student-centered experience across all channels and touchpoints. Participate in a seamless handoff of newly deposited students to our advisement groups to ensure students have a smooth transition to campus.
  • Oversee staff responsible for communication workflows across email campaigns, automated drip sequences, text, chat, and related platforms, ensuring strategies are well-executed and aligned with enrollment goals.
  • Train your team on the distinct recruitment and admissions characteristics of each program and develop engagement approaches that help applicants make informed enrollment decisions.
  • Oversee on-campus and virtual information sessions and enrollment events, ensuring alignment with program positioning, prospective student needs, and conversion objectives.
  • Collaborate with academic and administrative offices to support coordinated enrollment operations, applicant support, and matriculation activities.

Admissions Operations, Systems, and Reporting

  • Lead admissions operations and application review, including document collection, transcript review, workflow management, applicant follow-up, and decision timeliness.
  • Oversee CRM administration, enrollment systems, workflow optimization, and automation to support operational efficiency, data integrity, and consistent applicant communication.
  • Use CRM reporting and enrollment analytics to monitor funnel performance, identify operational challenges, and support decision-making.
  • Provide regular enrollment updates, forecasting reports, and strategic analyses to university leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Maintain a regular review process for operational indicators — including response times, application completion rates, time to decision, melt, and enrollment by program — and use findings to support continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, accreditation standards, and university policies.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop the graduate enrollment management team, including admissions specialists, call center staff, enrollment communications staff, admissions operations staff, and part-time staff.
  • Set clear operational standards and accountability measures related to applicant engagement, responsiveness, follow-up, and conversion throughout the admissions lifecycle.
  • Conduct regular one-on-ones, pipeline reviews, and performance conversations with direct reports; support onboarding and ongoing staff development.
  • Build and maintain training practices related to student engagement, enrollment counseling, communication effectiveness, systems use, and conversion strategies.

Product Knowledge

The Director is expected to maintain working knowledge of:

  • Each program’s curriculum, faculty expertise, student work, and notable campus experiences.
  • Student outcomes, including licensure rates, career placement, salary data, internships, and capstone experiences.
  • Current job market trends and employer expectations relevant to each program area.
  • New York City as a context for career launch and professional growth.
  • The pressures facing working professionals who are balancing graduate school alongside careers and personal responsibilities.
  • Graduate financing options, including financial aid, scholarships, and employer-sponsored tuition benefits.

Experience & Educational Background:

  • Master’s degree required
  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience in graduate admissions, enrollment management, or a closely related field, including senior or leadership responsibility; experience in a multi-program or multi-campus environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and developing teams, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
  • Experience developing and executing enrollment strategy, including goal-setting, funnel management, and data-informed decision-making.
  • Familiarity with call center operations and enrollment communications platforms, including CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot, or equivalent), email automation, and digital engagement tools.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate enrollment goals into clear operational plans and hold a team accountable for results.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; able to build trust with prospective students, academic partners, staff, and university leadership.
  • Strong data literacy — comfortable reading enrollment reports, identifying trends, and translating findings for a range of audiences.
  • Knowledge of graduate financing, including financial aid, scholarships, and employer-sponsored tuition programs.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems, virtual communication platforms, and digital enrollment tools; comfortable experimenting with and applying new tools, including AI applications.
  • Ability to manage a complex, multi-stakeholder portfolio with competing priorities, exercising sound judgment and follow-through independently.
