Position Summary:
|
The Executive Director of GPATS and Clinical Assistant Professor provides strategic leadership for the Graduate Program in Advanced Talmudic Studies (GPATS). This role oversees student recruitment and admissions, academic programming, faculty management, curriculum development, student advising, budgeting, community partnerships, and program operations while serving as a faculty member responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate-level courses.

Position Responsibilities:
|
Student Recruitment & Admissions
- Recruit prospective students for the GPATS program through outreach to Stern seniors, high schools, and schools in Israel; deliver speeches and presentations to engage future applicants
- Manage the full admissions process, including interviewing and the Bechina evaluation
Student Advising & Support
- Conduct weekly one-on-one check-ins with every student; advise on personal, academic, and career concerns
- Mediate chavruta and peer conflicts; monitor attendance, exam completion, and overall program success
- Mentor students on lecture preparation, topic selection, source sheets, and teaching delivery
Faculty Management
- Vet, interview, and contract faculty annually; collaborate on course selection and new offerings
- Oversee performance, including timely grading and class assessments
Curriculum & Registrar Coordination
- Partner with the Registrar to develop, register, and staff new and recurring courses each semester
- Direct the Shana Gimmel/Daled (3rd & 4th year) program: recruitment, new courses, pedagogy curriculum, guest speakers, and professional training sessions
- Direct the Tanach Track; teach a 3-credit Tanach course with structured chavruta hours
Budget & Development
- Build and manage the annual budget, including faculty compensation and revenue targets
- Coordinate expense approvals and conduct financial oversight
- Partner with donors and Institutional Advancement to write grant proposals, reports, and funding pitches; collaborate with CPA on market research and recruitment strategy
Programming & Events
- Plan and lead weekly Wednesday Lunch & Learn; organize semester Orientation and annual Graduation and Yom Iyun
- Coordinate the June Zman summer learning program and the President's Day Dor LeDor family program
- Oversee online programming (Gemara Boot Camp, Community Beit Midrash 2.0), including speaker coordination and advertising; manage 10–12 Rosh Chodesh series per year
Community Teaching & Placement
- Place and mentor students in part-time teaching roles, Shabbat scholar-in-residence engagements, and community shiurim
- Accompany students on 3–4 Shabbatons annually; deliver lectures on behalf of GPATS
- Identify and secure community teaching opportunities to fulfill Shana Gimmel requirements
Teaching Responsibilities
- Teach 3 undergraduate courses per semester at Stern College for Women
- Teach a 3-credit Tanach course to the GPATS Tanach Track
- Provide structured chavruta material for independent student study
- Plan and teach the weekly Wednesday Lunch & Learn program
- Deliver lectures on behalf of GPATS during 3–4 Shabbatons per year
- Give a shiur at the annual GPATS Yom Iyun
- Teach one of the four annual 6-part Community Beit Midrash 2.0 online series

Experience & Educational Background:
|
- Doctorate (PhD) in Talmud, Rabbinics, Jewish Studies, or a closely related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent demonstrated scholarly achievement
- Minimum 7 years of experience teaching Talmud or rabbinic literature at the tertiary or advanced post-secondary level
- Demonstrated record of academic program leadership, including curriculum design, student recruitment, and faculty or staff management
- Experience in stakeholder engagement spanning academic, donor, and broader Jewish community audiences
- Prior experience mentoring women in advanced Torah or academic settings is strongly preferred

Skills & Competencies:
|
- Fluency in classical rabbinic texts
- Strong pedagogical skills with the ability to teach across a range of student experience levels
- Strategic planning and operational management capabilities suited to a graduate academic program
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Hebrew proficiency is an asset
- Ability to represent the program publicly at conferences, community events, and recruitment settings
