Position Summary:      

The Director of Online Education will manage, direct and ensure the overall operation and quality of all online programs at WSSW in conjunction with an OPM or as stand alone programs. This includes asynchronous online and live online programs.  He/She will be the primary liaison with Everspring as well as internally with faculty, staff and students. This position reports to the Dean of WSSW.

Position Responsibilities:

Online Faculty Oversight

  • Recruit and vet high performing online faculty with proven teaching competencies.
  • Develop the online teacher training course and enroll online faculty into the online teacher training course.
  • Match all courses offered with a well trained and competent online teachers.
  • Supervise the daily/weekly performance of online faculty through direct contact with the OPM and through direct course presence/oversight.
  • Evaluate all online faculty performance, including delivering annual performance evaluations for online full and part-time faculty and adjuncts in collaboration with the Dean and Associate Dean.
  • Make decisions on which faculty should continue to teach online and which should be removed from the teaching roster.
  • Support online faculty in ongoing professional development.
  • Collaborate with Associate Director of Online Field Education to support the recruitment and retention of online field faculty when needed.
  • In conjunction with Everspring, ensure that all classes evaluate their faculty and their experience. Maintain metrics to evaluate online faculty performance pursuant to WSSW standards
  • Facilitate online teaching assignments each term and semester, including the online schedule.
  • Work with the Office Administrator to hire online adjunct teaching contracts, and full-time online faculty overload contracts
  • Manage online advising contracts and ensure that students receive proper online advising from faculty.

Student Relations

  • Work closely with Everspring to determine admission projections to ensure appropriate level of student services and courses.
  • Develop online student retention initiatives, including collaboration with Everspring.
  • Develop an online Student Development Committee to support student success for struggling students in conjunction with the Associate Dean.
  • Develop and maintain systems to support effective Academic Advising
  • Respond to difficult student issues as needed using the resources of WSSW including the Assistant and Associate Deans.

Program Development/Support

  • Develop, maintain, and implement policies and processes for the smooth operation of the online program
  • Maintain interdepartmental relationships within the university including finance, registrar, general counsel, graduate enrollment management,  and IT to ensure smooth flow of registration and billing to students.
  • Manage all technology issues through GEM, IT and Everspring quickly and efficiently.
  • Work with the curriculum committee to assess the quality of online course content and identify courses that need immediate building, revision, or refreshing.
  • Identify areas of need and improvement to maintain the success of the online program
  • Coordinate/translate online program issues and needs with on-campus systems
  • Participate in school committees, meetings, and projects as appropriate to the online program.

Online Course Development

  • Maintain regular contact with the Everspring instructional design team as well as university IT services to ensure course content is developed, updated, and launched each semester
  • Work closely with Everspring to develop processes and resources to support the delivery of MSWO courses
  • Work closely with the Curriculum Committee and Everspring to identify and develop new online offerings or to revise or refresh existing courses.
  • Oversee the hiring of instructional designers to assist the MSW and PhD programs develop live online courses.
  • Curate the live online courses in Canvas.
  • Develop a system of curation for the master shells for live online courses.

Administration

  • Serve as liaison between Everspring management and WSSW on issues of enrollment, student retention, contract, and program oversight
  • Serve as liaison between Everspring and other university online programs
  • Stay up-to-date on online program budget through regular consultation with the Dean
  • Meet regularly with the Director of Field Education and Coordinator of Online Field Education to provide strong leadership to the online program

Experience & Educational Background:

• Minimum of 10 years proven progressive administrative and/or direct service experience in human services or education

  • Program development experience
  • Personnel management experience
  • Undergraduate or graduate teaching experience is desirable
  • MSW preferred
  • Online teaching experience and experience with instructional design preferred

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated experience navigating through academic or other complex systems and/or organizations
  • An understanding of online education delivery and management models
  • Understanding online delivery platforms
  • Experience working with OPM
  • Understanding of the vision and mission of the Wurzweiler School of Social Work is required
