Position Summary:       

This role is best described as a mobile student outreach position.  This position requires the person to conduct counseling and religious guidance for students in the Irving I. Stone Beit Midrash Program (SBMP) undergraduate Jewish studies program.  This person will also need to proactively reach out to students to give them support, build relationships with the students, and help them maximize their potential.  This person will work with a team of Rabbis which provide for the well being of students on campus and help create a warm atmosphere around the campus. This person will also be responsible for delivering lectures and give informal Torah classes (in addition to any other formal teaching responsibilities that they may have in a faculty position at the university).

The major focus of this particular Sgan Mashgiach will be to establish relationships with the students in the Irving I. Stone Beit Midrash Program (SBMP) so they may adjust to the challenging dual curriculum.

This position is designed to be a FULL-TIME position with hours divided between daytime and nighttime hours.

The person in this role will report directly to the Mashgiach(im) of UTS/RIETS who then reports to Rabbi Yosef Kalinsky, Dean of UTS.

He will have to report to the UTS office regarding students’ morning program progress.  He will also require a relationship with the Office of the Dean, Academic Guidance, Office of Student Affairs, Housing office, Office of Disabilities, and the Counseling Center.  

Position Responsibilities:

  • Carry a caseload of 100-150 SBMP students and must set individual meetings with the students in an effort to build a rapport with them and then track those students throughout their time on campus. 
  1. Speak to the students about issues of personal growth
  2. Arranging torah partners
  3. Follow up with students who do not attend classes
  • Work closely with the faculty of SBMP to follow up with student progress
  • Program events for students that are educational, create a warm collegial atmosphere, and that will enhance their religious experience.
  • Develop a sense of community among the diverse student population.
  • Attend biweekly team meetings as well as biweekly individual supervision. 
  • Give informal lectures on a range of Torah and religious topics as well as life cycle events.

Experience & Educational Background:

Must have at least a Rabbinical Ordination (Semikha). Preference given to someone who has attended Yeshiva College / SSSB and RIETS, but this is not essential.

Skills & Competencies:

Excellent interpersonal skills, good public speaker, able to prepare and deliver lectures on religious and personal growth topics, basic computer skills (MS Word, Publisher, Excel).
