Work Schedule:

8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday

Rate of Pay:

This position is a grade 214 with a minimum of $64,236 and a mid-point of $85,648. Salary offer will be commensurate with the education/experience, in alignment with the College’s compensation philosophy, and the current CBA, if applicable.

Job Summary:

An employee in this classification performs work of moderate difficulty by serving as the Institutional Research (IR) Office lead in quality control testing for the College’s data warehouse, and to assist the Senior Director of Data Quality (SDDQ) in preparing, coordinating and managing external data submissions. Work is distinguished by the ability to work with sensitive and private data and maintain the highest level of confidentiality and ethical consideration. General supervision is received by the assigned manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Bachelor’s degree required in a related field with a minimum of two years of experience in an educational setting or relevant research experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  2. Good knowledge of the development, management, and use of relational databases and in querying, creating and maintaining working datasets from an ERP/student information system (e.g., Ellucian Colleague, Banner, etc.)
  3. Considerable skills working directly with data warehouse or data management systems and using one or more common query/reporting tools (e.g., SSMS, SQL, TOAD, Cognos, SSRS, Crystal Reports, etc.)
  4. Considerable skills with statistical software, such as SPSS (preferred or SAS or R):
  5. Considerable skills in using data visualization software, such as Tableau or PowerBI.
  6. Considerable skills in presenting and discussing statistical analysis and research findings to a wide variety of audiences with varying levels of statistical understanding
  7. Considerable skills in analyzing problems and developing creative and innovative solutions.
  8. Considerable skill in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Access and Publisher
  9. Considerable skill in organizing work to meet established deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
  10. Considerable skill in interpersonal interaction to be applied to a variety of individuals with differing education, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
  11. Considerable skills in verbal and written communication to a variety of audiences.
  12. Considerable skill in operating a personal computer, applicable software and peripheral equipment as well as learning and adapting to new and updated programs and technology.
  13. Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends when required by the department’s needs.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Master's degree
  2. Experience in Institutional Research or Information Technology, or a similar department in a higher educational institution
  3. Considerable skills in statistical software syntax/programming

Essential Duties:

  1. Data Warehouse Support and Administration: Serves as IR system administrator for the data warehouse.  Analyzes and maintains working knowledge of data warehouse systems, including integration with other college systems; performs upgrades, recommends improvements, documents daily, weekly and other tasks and troubleshooting documentation. Maintains, documents, and monitors security, working with IT to resolve issues.
  2. Prepare Data Submissions to External Reporting Agencies: At the direction of the SDDQ, prepares data extracts for submission to fulfill various national, state and local reporting requirements. Works with IT to troubleshoot and update data extraction processes as needed.
  3. Prepare/Maintain Tableau Data Visualizations: Assists SDDQ and Managing Director in maintenance of existing and creation of new data visualization dashboards used by stakeholders to interact with the College’s data warehouse. These dashboards will primarily be created using Tableau software. 
  4. Participation in College Committees/Activities: Represents the Institutional Research office on various committees throughout the College, as directed by the SDDQ and Managing Director of Institutional Research. Provides general consultation for members of the College concerning research needs.
  5. Original Research and Development: Generates unique and innovative research projects to further the College’s mission and goals, as time permits. Seeks to advance understanding of College’s data by examining new or previously unused data elements through sophisticated statistical techniques.
  6. Maintains required training, licensure and/or certifications
  7. Maintains confidentiality of privileged information and adheres to applicable privacy laws
  8. Demonstrates sensitivity, understanding and respect of diverse populations within the workplace.
  9. Maintains an understanding of the work of colleagues to effectively provide backup and/or support for co-workers during times when the division is short-staffed or experiencing an increased volume of work.
  10. Adheres to department guidelines for attendance and punctuality
