Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday 8AM - 5PM

Rate of Pay:

This position is a grade 15 with a minimum of  $56,925 and midpoint of $75,900. Salary offer will be commensurate with the education/experience, in alignment with the College’s compensation philosophy,  and the current CBA, if applicable.

Job Summary:

An employee in this classification performs work of moderate difficulty by implementing and coordinating a centralized internship and experiential education program for Elgin Community College.  Work is distinguished by the ability to work closely with administrators and faculty to integrate academic studies with work experience; support the continuous and strategic improvement of department services that effectively meet the current and future career needs of students. General supervision is received by the assigned manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Master's degree (MA) with a minimum of three years of work experience in job development, internship program administration, student employment administration, career counseling or related area equivalent combination of training and experience.
  2. Considerable skills in advising students with their career and personal development.
  3. Considerable skill in organizing work to meet established deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
  4. Considerable skills in interpersonal interaction to be applied to a variety of individuals with differing education, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
  5. Considerable skill in developing and maintaining positive and professional relationships with internal and external customers from diverse populations.
  6. Considerable skills in verbal and written communication.
  7. Considerable presentation and facilitation skills
  8. Considerable skill in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Access and Publisher
  9. Working skill in operating a personal computer, applicable software and peripheral equipment as well as learning and adapting to new and updated programs and technology.
  10. Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends when required by the department’s needs.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

 

Essential Duties:

  1. Develop, manage and evaluate the external and internal college internship programs and experiential learning experiences; maintains listing of current internship and experiential learning opportunities; establishes records of students placed and referral results; prepares reports and key assessment data regarding results and outcomes.
  2. Collaborate with administrators and faculty in a) identifying occupations and industries related to academic fields that are suitable for internship development, b) market internship program initiatives and, c) refer skill-ready candidates for available internship opportunities.
  3. Actively research and contact local companies and organizations to build networking and internship/mentoring programs. Establish new, and strengthen current, relationships with employers to cultivate jobs for internship opportunities; conduct employer site visits; develop program involving employer presentations and field visits. Act as a liaison with internship/experiential learning sites.
  4. Provide one-on-one appointments for students interested in internships; conduct pre-employment referral interview to assess qualifications based on education, experience, ability, aptitude and other criteria; provide instruction on work place expectations, etiquette and job keeping skills. Maintain continued communication and academic and personal support throughout internship experience.
  5. Act as a liaison with faculty and staff of participating departments to ensure academic requirements are met. Maintain communication with supporting departments.
  6. Manage the Illinois Cooperative Work Study Grant.
  7. Manage the College Central Network On-line Job Posting Site.
  8. Develop and conduct classroom presentations and workshops on internships, job search, resume writing and interviewing skills.
  9. Counsel students to identify and implement their career objectives integrating diverse challenges including personal, emotional and/or physical disability, and economic concerns. Refer out for professional assistance as required by individual circumstances.
  10. Provide leadership for the department in the absence of the Director.
  11. Maintains required training, licensure and/or certifications
  12. Maintains confidentiality of privileged information and adheres to applicable privacy laws
  13. Demonstrates sensitivity, understanding and respect of diverse populations within the workplace.
  14. Maintains an understanding of the work of colleagues to effectively provide backup and/or support for co-workers during times when the division is short-staffed or experiencing an increased volume of work.
  15. Adheres to department guidelines for attendance and punctuality

Other Duties:

  1. Perform other job-related duties as assigned which pertain to the job description.
  2. Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department.
