Work Schedule:

Schedule TBD, Minimum Mondays thru Thursdays, 2:00pm - 5:00pm

Rate of Pay:

This position is a grade 14 with an hourly minimum of $25.89 and a mid-point of $34.52. Salary offer will be commensurate with the education/experience, in alignment with the College’s compensation philosophy, and the current CBA, if applicable.

Job Summary:

An employee in this classification performs work of moderate difficulty providing support to the Upward Bound Manager to ensure quality implementation of grant services; recruitment and selection of participants; assessing participants needs; and regular communication/outreach to ensure participant engagement with grant services.General supervision is received from the assigned manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in education, social work or related field. 
  2. Good knowledge of evidence-based practices demonstrated to improve college and career readiness of disadvantaged youth
  3. Knowledge of Upward Bound grant application, award, and annual reporting processes and ECC’s Upward Bound grant application commitments
  4. Knowledge of multi-tiered system of support employed by secondary schools the Upward Bound program supports
  5. Knowledge of post-high school pathway options for students including educational/ training requirements and paths for various careers
  6. Knowledge of college planning steps and resources, as well as understanding of financial aid application processes.
  7. Knowledge of cultural and generational differences; challenges facing low-income students/families and challenges facing students who are the first in their families to attend college
  8. Knowledge of community resources available to support program participants and their families
  9. Ability to communicate effectively, written and orally, in both English and Spanish strongly preferred.
  10. Passion for working with students in identifying and preparing for their post-high school opportunities, especially low-income and first-generation college students.
  11. Demonstrated ability to interact, work, and develop meaningful relationships with people of various cultural backgrounds.
  12. Ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously with attention to detail and accuracy.
  13. Works well independently and collaboratively with others.
  14. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google applications
  15. Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Prior work experience preferred in education, social work and/or related fields

Previous work experience with secondary or college students and/or TRiO grant programs preferred

Essential Duties:

  1. Recruit students from designated middle school and high schools who meet the grant requirements. Outreach requires extensive phone calls, video calls, etc. with students/guardians as well as with designated school contacts. Document outreach efforts
  2. Support Director and Managers with implementation of services and activities outlined in the grant application plan of operation. Conduct outreach to ensure student/family participation in planned events and activities. Document student participation and contact.
  3. Maintain regular contact with assigned students to provide necessary support and additional resources. Document student contacts/outreach and student participation in support services.
  4. Regularly use school provided data to monitor student progress. Use data to create individualized support plan for each student that meets the program services outlined in the grant application. Work with Manager to recommend student supports and/or interventions to ensure students meet grant objectives.
  5. Assist Upward Bound staff with other duties as assigned.

  2. Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department.
