This position is a grade 19 with a minimum of $114,989 and a mid-point of $153,318 Salary offer will be commensurate with the education/experience, in alignment with the College’s compensation philosophy, and the current CBA, if applicable.

Job Summary:

An employee in this classification provides vision, leadership, management and strategic direction for all facets of Academic Advising, Veteran Services, Judicial Affairs, TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) and TRiO Student Support Services/English as a Second Language (SSS-ESL) federal grant programs, as well as ADA/Student Access & Disability Services.  This position will lead all aspects of the College’s Early Alert student support efforts, in addition to managing Student Code of Conduct issues, assisting faculty and staff with student behavioral concerns, chairing the Student Disciplinary Committee, and chairing the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT).    General direction is received from the Associate VP of Student Services and Development

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Master’s degree in counseling, academic advising, higher education administration, student development, or other relevant field.
  2. Three to five years of supervisory experience required, with a background in student services/affairs.
  3. Knowledge of student affairs/student development theory and practice.
  4. Legal knowledge and practice of Higher Education Law, including case law and related compliance issues, Illinois Community College Statutes and related compliance issues, Student Rights and Due Process, ADA, Section 504, and other disability laws.
  5. Awareness of student affairs’ best practices, trends, and challenges, e.g. retention, academic advising, judicial affairs, veteran services, student conduct, disability services.
  6. Proven leadership and management experience in a complex organization with proven ability to apply management principles, lead staff, organize and set priorities, and establish goals and strategies for achieving them.
  7. Demonstration of excellent analytical and problem-solving skills utilizing sound professional judgment.
  8. Ability to be fiscally responsible.
  9. Ability to supervise a diverse staff and functions, given deadlines, policies, procedures and pressure during peak periods.
  10. Working knowledge of conflict management, restorative justice, and student conduct processes.
  11. Working knowledge of the threat assessment and behavioral intervention management process.
  12. Working knowledge of veteran support services.
  13. Working knowledge of TRiO student support programs, federal grant requirements and parameters
  14. Experience using data to conduct program assessment, and advocate for and then lead initiatives and improvements based on that assessment
  15. Excellent listening, speaking, reading, writing communication skills.
  16. Excellent computer skills. Working knowledge of Ellucian Colleague, Perceptive Content (WebNow), and a CRM software a plus.

Essential Duties:

  1. Supervise the Director of Academic Advising leading the strategic vision for a robust academic and transfer advising program. It involves ensuring a supportive system for students from enrollment to graduation, innovating advising practices, and spearheading the college’s persistence efforts. The role also includes developing training for advisors, establishing effective communication regarding advising updates, and implementing best practices based on thorough research and assessment of student outcomes.
  2. Provide leadership and strategic guidance to the Director of Academic Advising, particularly in the execution of the Early Alert/Spartan Alert system. Responsibilities include monitoring the alert system, leading advisors and case managers, coordinating with faculty and IT departments, tracking student progress, and preparing evaluative reports on the program’s impact. The position also entails conducting training sessions on alert submission and outcomes, as well as collecting, organizing, and utilizing data to advocate for and develop student support mechanisms, resources, and interventions tailored to student needs.
  3. Supervise TRiO Director; maintain oversight of TRiO SSS and SSS-ESL grant implementation and operations, including fiscal oversight. Serve as the grant “Project Supervisor” and service implementation, goal identification and pursuit, and monitoring program metrics.
  4. As the College’s Judicial Affairs Officer, foster student responsibility and accountability through educational initiatives and enforcement of the college’s code of conduct, including academic integrity. This includes conducting investigations, holding meetings with students, imposing sanctions, and documenting the process. The officer acts as a bridge between students and faculty, leads the Student Disciplinary Committee, oversees the Behavioral Intervention Team, and updates procedures. Additionally, the officer evaluates the judicial process’s effectiveness, suggests improvements, and conducts faculty workshops on related topics.
  5. Supervise Veterans Services staff, manage budget, process timesheets, advocate for student-veterans, serve on Veteran’s Committee, help with events and workshops for veterans, and attend training as needed.
  6. Supervise Director of ADA/Student Access & Disability Services, providing leadership, guidance in analysis, review, creation and interpretation of College policies and administrative procedures.  Ensure all relevant ADA legislation is adhered to, and advocate for policies and practices that promote equity, access and student success.
  7. Provide effective management of  budgets for various student services, including Academic Advising, Veteran Services, TRiO programs, and ADA/Student Access & Disability Services. Responsibilities include overseeing orders and requisitions, setting departmental goals, and leading the Stop-Before-You-Drop campaign. The role requires supervising emergency procedures, participating in the Deans’ Council, serving on committees, and providing consultation on college policies. It also entails resolving student complaints, collaborating on administrative withdrawals, being the point of contact for academic renewal requests, and managing protocols for student deaths and extended absences. Additionally, the position includes serving as the evening administrator on a scheduled basis.
