Rate of Pay:

This position is a grade 16 with a minimum of $72,417 and a mid-point of $96,556. Salary offer will be commensurate with the education/experience, in alignment with the College’s compensation philosophy, and the current CBA, if applicable.

Job Summary:

An employee in this classification performs work of considerable difficulty by directing all aspects of the Truck Driving program including maintaining accreditation through the ICCB. Work is distinguished by the combination of 60% administrative duties and 40% teaching/instructor duties.  Direction is received by the assigned manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

 
  1. Bachelors degree with three years driving experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  2. Considerable knowledge of all mechanics involved with commercial vehicles and towed units.
  3. Considerable knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations
  4. Considerable skill in the operation and instruction on any type of class “A” CDL vehicle or combination unit.
  5. Considerable skill in teaching CDL education and SOS rules of the road
  6. Considerable skills to maintain and monitor testing procedures at the Illinois Secretary of State’s office
  7. Considerable skills to cultivate and maintain good relations with the Illinois Secretary of State’s office
  8. Considerable skills to understand and convey theories and methodologies of an articulated vehicle.
  9. Valid Illinois class ‘A’ CDL license with endorsements.
  10. Licensed by Illinois Secretary of State or ICCB as a truck driving instructor.
  11. Considerable skills to instruct by use of ‘smart classroom’ technology.
  12. Considerable skill in interpersonal interaction to be applied to a variety of individuals with differing education, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
  13. Considerable skills in verbal and written communication.
  14. Considerable skills and ability to plan and adapt to change
  15. Considerable skill in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Access and Publisher
  16. Working skill in operating a personal computer, applicable software and peripheral equipment as well as learning and adapting to new and updated programs and technology.
  17. Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

 

Essential Duties:

 
  1. Program administration involves student recruitment, schedule and direct as many as 12 driver trainers, maintain timesheets, fiscal management, records updating, development of program documents, policies and procedures, curriculum development, evaluate outcome and program effectiveness, maintain equipment and outdoor classroom facility, purchasing, deal with vendors and industry related agencies, and work closely with admissions, registration, financial aid, marketing, and Illinois Secretary of State.
  2. Convey theories and methodologies of an articulated vehicle, organize class presentations, revise and grade quizzes and tests, scheduling, job placement, advise, mentor, manage student issues, comply with annual changes set forth by Federal and State licensing laws, update classroom materials, and maintain accreditation through the ICCB.
  3. DOT physical and drug test scheduling, Secretary of State CDL license testing, attend administrative, faculty, advisory, committee, program and industry meetings, participate in academic and professional development workshop sessions.
  4. Promote ECC and maximize program exposure by participating in graduation ceremonies, parades, competitions, job fairs, and other related college and community events.
  5. Maintains confidentiality of privileged information and adheres to applicable privacy laws
  6. Demonstrates sensitivity, understanding and respect of diverse populations within the workplace.
  7. Maintains an understanding of the work of colleagues to effectively provide backup and/or support for co-workers during times when the division is short-staffed or experiencing an increased volume of work.
  8. Adheres to department guidelines for attendance and punctuality
  9. Demonstrates independent judgement and discretion in making position related decisions.
