JOB TITLE: ACCESSIBILITY COORDINATOR                                                 DEPARTMENT: DISABILITY SUPPORT SERVICES (DSS)

SALARY RANGE: $45,000 - $62,000                                                           FLSA: EXEMPT

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director, Disability Support Services

SCHEDULE DETAILS: Full-time/12-month position/PEERS

 

Position Summary

The Accessibility Coordinator serves students through collaboration with faculty, staff, and community partners. Their responsibilities include: determining appropriate academic accommodation(s) during an interactive process involving supporting documentation, working with college partners to facilitate academic accommodation(s), and addressing student or faculty concerns about the nature or implementation of academic accommodation(s).

 

Essential Job Duties   

  • Evaluate physical and psychiatric/psychological documentation including IEPs and 504 plans to determine eligibility and identify appropriate accommodations tailored to each student with a current qualifying condition(s).
  • Conduct interactive interviews with students to determine reasonable accommodations to facilitate equal access without fundamentally altering the nature of the program, course, service and/or activity.
  • Provide excellent student support by building rapport, listening attentively, defusing escalated concerns, confirming understanding, and connecting students with appropriate follow-up services.
  • Assist with accommodation(s) and train students to use assistive technologies.
  • Promote self-advocacy and independence among students with qualifying condition(s).
  • Collect, review, and maintain confidentiality of student documentation and FERPA bound student records and communications in an organized and secure manner consistent with department procedures and policies.
  • Demonstrate alignment with OTC Cares (student-centered, holistic, proactive, and data-informed) and utilize that framework in day-to-day and long-term decision making.
  • Maintain current knowledge of state and federal disability-related rules and regulations.
  • Document complaints, inquiries, and other concerns, and propose solutions to promote a culture of continuous quality improvement.
  • Contribute to the development and actuation of departmental goals.
  • Coordinate with faculty, administration, and staff when implementing accommodation(s) related to facilities, programs, and coursework.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, including relevant conferences and community events.
  • Conduct education/training workshops for faculty, students, staff and high school students and parents regarding services to students.
  • Serve as a liaison with community partners to serve supplemental resources for students working with DSS.
  • Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
  • Comply with all college policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including serving on committees and attending college functions and college sponsored events.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Two years of experience working with individuals with disabilities, including the following areas: academic accommodation provision, documentation review, assistive technology and training.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, specifically Title II and III, and its revisions; Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; and other relevant legislation pertaining to higher education and disability.
  • Basic understanding of transition issues for students exiting K-12.
  • Knowledge of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of the community college student.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.
  • Competency in technology and software, including case management, learning management, and customer relationship management platforms.
  • Adept in organizing, prioritizing, and working independently on assignments.
  • Access to reliable transportation (for travel to all OTC campuses and locations).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

 

Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Master’s degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Four years of experience working with individuals with disabilities in an educational environment, including the following areas: documentation review, academic accommodation implementation, and assistive technology and training.
  • Experience with Case Management System (AIM), Colleague, and Canvas.
  • Two years of experience working within a collegiate setting.

Environment: Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting with frequent interruptions and distractions.  Requires extended periods of time viewing computer monitor or remaining stationary; may require adjustment of schedule to include some evening and/or weekends; may encounter occasional exposure to inclement weather during travel. 

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to remain stationary or sit for prolonged periods of time; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (may utilize aids); to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.
