Schedule:

Weekdays. Available for 4-hour (or more) blocks between 7:30 am and 5:00 pm preferred. Individuals who can work one or more 8-hour blocks between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm preferred.Full-time if you continue into next Summer.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Join our Forage Legume Breeding Project at the USDA-ARS Dairy Forage Research Center on the west side of the UW-Madison campus. Our program needs several workers for work ranging from manual gardening to driving tractors for agricultural field research and plant breeding projects. Experience not necessary. We'll train qualified people for all tasks. Start your plant science research career here!

Available for 4-hour (or more) blocks between 7:30 am and 5:00 pm preferred. Individuals who can work one or more 8-hour blocks between 7:30 am and 5:00 pm preferred.

Duties include:

  • Seed hardenss and germination testing.
  • Greenhouse work (starting seed, potting, maintaining, and watering plants)
  • Transplanting Clover and Alfalfa to field 
  • Safely using riding mowers and tractors for maintaining fields
  • Using hand tools for EXTREME gardening
  • Rating traits of plants in the field

All duties require attention to detail, ability to perform monotonous work, and precise record keeping while getting dirty and/or sweaty!

Warning! The work is often dirty, physically demanding, and outdoors in all weather conditions.

Qualifications:

All duties require attention to detail, ability to perform monotonous work, and precise record keeping. Also, ready to work outdoors under all weather conditions. We'll provide necessary training if you can follow instructions and thrive in a greenhouse environment and outdoors.

Fine Print: Must be U.S. citizen.
