Department Overview:

Luther Memorial is a ELCA church here on campus, and was originally started by a group of 7 UW students way back in 1907.

Music is a big part of our worship and we have weekly choir practice on Thursday evenings from 7-9pm. Some of the members of the choirs are young families with little children and they usually have to rotate who can come rehearse if we don't have the nursery staffed for care.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

  • Gives primary care to children and infants in the nursery from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday nights (with opportunities to serve as a substitute for Sunday morning staff).
  • Arrives by 6:45 p.m. to prepare Nursery for children/sanitize and straighten up before departure after last child is signed out.
  • Maintains a safe environment in the nursery.
  • Welcomes children and provides for their needs as necessary.
  • Communicates with pastors regarding nursery issues and necessary supplies.
  • Keeps sign in/out sheet up to date.

Qualifications:

  • Desire to work with children and infants in a positive way.
  • Experience as a child care giver.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR certification.
  • Ability to provide physical care and emotional nurturing for children and infants.
  • Competence in welcoming parents and in building trust relationships with parents of children in the nursery.

Physical Demands

caring for children. lifting no more than 10 pounds.
