Position Summary/Job Duties:
Position Summary/ Job Duties: We are seeking a caregiver for our 12-year-old daughter this summer. Our daughter is a happy, curious girl born with Angelman Syndrome, a rare genetic and neurological disorder characterized by severe developmental delay and learning disabilities, absence/ near absence of speech, and balance issues.
Our daughter will be participating in MMSD’s Extended School Year Program for 6 weeks starting late June through the end of July. We are not only seeking a caring and responsive person to care for her during our work hours when ESY is not in session, but also someone who has an interest and/or experience in teaching children with special needs.
More specifically, if you’re interested in this position, you will need to be:
Extremely patient. Our daughter is nonverbal, but can understand simple commands and phrases, but it may take some time for her to process those commands into actions that confirm she understands what you’ve spoken to her.
Very attentive, as our daughter tends to be very active and really likes the attention she receives from caregivers. And because of her severe developmental delay, you will need to keep a close eye on her at all times to ensure she does not unknowingly put herself in danger, as well as provide assistance with all personal care activities.
There may be days where you may need to drop her off or pick her up from different activities she may be signed up for, so having a reliable form of transportation is a necessity, and you must have a clean driving record.
Qualifications:
Qualifications:
Experience with child development, special needs care, or eldercare preferred. No degree required
Access to reliable transportation, and a valid driver license
You must also be able to pass a caregiver’s background check
