Department Overview:

 Have had fourteen garden helpers over eighteen years. Several have worked for two years and some for one year. Eleven have been UW students or former students

Schedule:

Two to three days per week approximately 3 to 5 hours per day. Very in frequent chicken sitting for 8 1/2 year old retired hen, short visits daily of 1/2 hour to check food and water. This will be very infrequent, only when the owner is gone. Schedule is totally weather dependent since one cannot do much when it is raining, but can adjust to make up missed time.

Salary/Wage Range:

Hourly $18.00 to $20.00

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Vegetable, flower garden and fruit tree activities (planting, watering, cultivating, weeding, pruning harvesting) along with some very limited chicken care.

Qualifications:

No previous gardening experience necessary (I can teach you that), but should enjoy working outside, gardening activities like working in the soil and like animals.

Need to be self-motivated as there is always something to do, but not always someone to tell you to do it. Sharing what we grow is part of the benefits so would be nice if you enjoy fresh produce.

Will need transportation to and from work and need to have a flexible schedule due to weather related adjustments.

Will need to be fully vaccinated for Covid-19.

Physical Demands

There is carrying, lifting, working outside during summer and fall and bending over or kneeling for weeding.
