Schedule:

Sundays from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm

Other days of the week as needed based on events at the church and employee availability (e.g., Wednesday evening, Saturday evening)

Position Summary/Job Duties:

We are seeking a part-time Child Care Attendant who ensures a safe, educational, and fun environment for infants through elementary school aged children on Sunday mornings and other times during the week, as available for a possible 3-6 hours per week. The hours of work on Sunday are from 8:00 am to 11:15 am.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Build appropriate faith community relationships with children and families including preparing and maintaining a warm, welcoming, inviting and safe environment.
  • Provide age-appropriate child care including engage with children in activity, feed, change diapers, escort to the bathroom, collaborate with staff and volunteers to provide quality care, and lead the Sunday School lesson when needed.
  • Provide proactive and consistent communication with families and staff including being responsive to parent/guardian requests, notifying parent/guardian in the event of an emergency, timely staff and organizational communication.
  • Follow and adhere to church policies including nursery child care policies.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned based on organizational and program needs.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Experience in providing childcare is required.
  • Current infant and child CPR and basic first aid certification or the ability to obtain current certification within 90 days of hire is required.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Support the mission and ministry of Bethel Lutheran Church.
  • Self-integrity and the ability to assume and maintain trust and responsibility in keeping with the nature of the work in a religious institution.
  • Must be a nurturing, caring, and patient caregiver who enjoys engaging with young children.
  • Religious institution appropriate attire.
  • Ability to work with other people in a positive, professional, and supporting manner.
  • Ability to relate to members of the Bethel congregation in a positive manner.
  • Ability to meet the attendance requirements of the position.
  • Completion of a background check is required.

Physical Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation):

  • Talk with adults and children in person.
  • Hear sounds and voices.
  • Lifting up to 30 pounds.
