  • Flexible scheduling between the hours of 7:30am and 5:30pm Monday - Friday, depending on availability and class schedule.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

This position supports the Early Childhood Teachers and Assistant Teachers in the Eagle’s Wing Child Care and Education Programs. Of primary importance are the individual and group interactions with children in the classrooms specifically to ensure their safety and engagement while providing assistance with the preparation and implementation of activities.

  • Assist classroom teachers with the daily preparation and implementation of activities and snacks.
  • Interact and supervise children, ages 6 weeks to 12 years of age, both individually and in small groups.
  • Opportunity to facilitate programming and activities for University Apartments resident children during evening and occasional weekend hours, if interested.
  • Other projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants with course work in Early Childhood, Child Psychology, HDSF, or Elementary is preferred. 
  • One Early Childhood or Child Development Class required. Educational requirement can also be met by taking an Introduction to the Child Care Profession class at Madison College within six months of hire.
  • Preference will be given to UW Madison students and individuals residing in the Residence Halls or University Apartments.
  • Interested candidates must meet licensing requirements which include:
    • Passing a criminal background check, including a WI caregiver check.
    • A first time employee must complete fingerprints prior to employment (cost reimbursed by University Housing).
    • A first time employee must complete a physical exam (at their own cost) and provide proof of negative TB skin test prior to the first day of employment and again every 2- 5 years.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, reach overhead, sit on floor, and sit on small chairs 12 inches off the floor, continuously throughout the day.
  • Ability to lift and/or catch a child weighing up to 60 pounds occasionally throughout the day.
  • Ability to move and run during large motor activities frequently throughout the day.
  • Ability to visually monitor children continuously throughout the day.
