Department Overview:

We are more than our name! Since 1956 UCP has been a recognized and trusted organization offering valuable services for families, children and adults with varying disabilities and delays living throughout south central Wisconsin. (Columbia, Dane, Dodge, Grant, Green Lake, Iowa, Jefferson, Juneau, Richland, Rock and Sauk Counties.) We support individuals with autism, epilepsy, Down syndrome, traumatic brain injury, delays in speech, mobility and development, etc.

What’s a Respite Provider

You’ll step in and help care for a child, teen, or adult with a disability so their caregiver can take a break. Care can occur in the home or in the community; so you can do movie nights with a homebody or trips to the art museum with an adventurer! 

You might:

  • Hang out with someone who loves art, Minecraft, or sensory play

  • Help someone with basic needs like meals or getting dressed

  • Go on walks, do crafts, play games, or be a kind, supportive presence

  • Be trained in safety, support strategies, and communication techniques
