Position Summary/Job Duties:

In home care position – extremely flexible.  Help this sweet couple with basic day to day activities, provide companionship as well as occasional transportation to non-medical appointments (i.e. dentist, hair cuts, toe nails, hearing aid cleaning, lab work, etc).

Preference is for an applicant with some medical background / experience as well as their own car / vehicle in order to help with occasional transportation to and from appointments. However, both of these are preference only and are not absolute requirements. Position is extremely flexible, as there are no specific days, times or number of hours required.  An example schedule would be twice a week, for 2-4 hours each day. Your time is important, and I recognize that -so I also pay for travel time to and from your place to their home located on the East Side of Madison. If you are looking for just 1 day a week for 4 hours or 2 days a week for a total of 8 hours, I can accommodate either for the right applicant.

Mom, 82, has cognitive / memory challenges (not severe, but noticeable) and uses a walker inside and outside the house to help with balance and stability issues while walking. She is strong and does not need caregiver assistance with mobility – other than gentle reminders to continue walker usage to maintain safety.

Dad, 83, suffers from a degenerative neck issue, which can limit his ability at times. He also uses a walker inside and outside of the home.

Together, they are a very sweet couple located on the Eastside of Madison. They have 3 children, one in Madison, one in La Crosse and one located out of state. The kids help with all of the activities mentioned below, splitting these responsibilities amongst themselves – working to honor their parents wish to remain in their home. We are looking to add another member to our “team”. The children will continue to be the primary care takers and will be responsible for all major medical appointments. We are mainly looking for someone to help with some of the more basic tasks, to free us up to be able to spend more time with our own families and to just enjoy our parents rather than always be “doing” something when we are visiting them.

Duties include:

  • Light housekeeping – vacuuming, dusting, floors and cleaning bathrooms.
  • Laundry – help with doing 1-2 loads of laundry a week. Washer and Dryer are located in basement, so difficult for parents to carry baskets up and down the stairs.  You can do a load of laundry yourself if you’d like!
  • Physical Activity – help encourage getting outside for a walk up the block, or doing some light PT exercises to work on balance and overall strength. Exercises are very basic and do not require any advanced knowledge or experience.
  • Transportation – would be extremely helpful to have your own vehicle capable of transporting 2 rolling walkers to an occasional appointment or check-up.
  • Errands – occasional running to Target or pharmacy to pick up household items or some over the counter medications. Occasional trip to Culver’s for a shake and cheese curds may also be required!
  • Optional, not required, but would love someone who likes to cook. Assist with planning a meal each week, picking up ingrediaents (all reimbursed) and cooking the meal. Best part is – you can eat with them and even take some back with you!

Qualifications:

Nice to have - car with the ability to transport 2 walkers. Not an absolute requirement.
