Department Overview:

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses. 

As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!

Full-time, varies between 7:15am and 5:15pm.

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is the public recreation provider for the residents of Madison (within the boundaries of the Madison Metropolitan School District). MSCR’s Super Center Arts Camp provides elementary-aged youth with the opportunity to develop artistic interests and skills in a creative day-camp experience. This fine arts camp is for children who would enjoy new arts explorations in dance, theater, music and visual arts. At Super Center, campers are grouped by age and rotate daily through music, drama, dance and art activities based on a weekly theme. Daily activities also include games and other traditional camp activities, as well as a mid-day Mindfulness break. Other weekly activities include swimming, guest performers, field trips and special camp performances.

Job Description & Duties: 

Seeking dynamic Camp Counselors to spark joy and help lead unforgettable experiences in the fine arts! Lead groups of campers through camp activities while acting as a positive role model and encouraging campers to explore new interests and activities. Candidates for Camp Counselors must be enthusiastic, polite, take initiative, and work as part of a team. Ideal candidates have experience with behavioral and classroom management, transition tools and tricks, and time-filler activities.

Responsibilities:
• Responsible for active supervision of ALL CAMPERS AT ALL TIMES. 
• Responsible for helping with implementation of program, managing transitions, filling in time with kids, supervising during drop off/pick up. 
• Assist and support Specialty Program Leaders in implementing activities.
• Manage group and participant behaviors, address behavior issues as they arise.
• Track participants throughout the day, maintain sight and sound supervision of all participants.
• Assist with camp maintenance (cleanliness, organization, etc.) and administrative tasks as needed (attendance, communication with families, etc.)
• Plan and lead group games for beginning and end of camp each day
• Ensure all campers’ safety
• Create enthusiastic, engaging, and inclusive environment for campers
• Engage in all camp activities
• Actively participate in swimming and field trip days, getting in the pool or body of water with campers

Program Dates:
• Mandatory Staff Training: June 12, 15-18. No training 6/19.
• Camp Dates: 6/22-8/14 (NO CAMP on 7/3.) 

Work Location: Lapham Elementary- 1045 E Dayton Street

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Staff cannot miss more than one week of camp
• Must be available for mandatory training June 13, 16-18, 20. 
• Must be creative & enthusiastic.
• Must be available to work full-time.
• Flexibility and ability to adapt to dynamic camp environment
• Interest in fine arts
• Staff must be able to engage with campers for every activity and maintain enthusiasm.  
• Dependability, teamwork and enthusiasm required.

Preferred Qualifications: 

•1+ years’ experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds in a day camp or education setting.
•American Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR and First Aid certification is an asset.
•Ability to speak Spanish or other languages aside from English preferred.
