We buy and sell fine and collectible books (as well as posters, prints, diaries, letters, and broadsides) of all kinds, with a special interest in the following:

Philosophy, Logic, and the Foundations of Mathematics

Classical Antiquity

Modern First Editions (literature, science fiction and fantasy, mystery and crime, children's literature, 20th century popular culture)

General Antiquarian (especially literature and works of historical significance)

Fine Bindings

Americana (especially material related to the Colonial Period and Revolutionary War, the Midwest, the Civil War, and the Old West)

Travel & Exploration

We currently sell via mail order, our monthly online catalogs, or at our shop in Madison, WI. If you cannot visit us during our holiday hours feel free to call or email to set up a time to browse or sell your books to us. In addition to bookselling we also perform appraisals and valuations to be used for non-IRS purposes.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Evening Star Books LLC seeks an individual who loves books and is looking to dip their toe into the world of rare and collectible books. We are looking for a person to manage our shipping, answer inquiries about the books we have for sale, catalog select portions of our backlog (this includes rudimentary image capture and editing) and help manage sales records. We are seeking an individual who can initially work 15 hours a week, three hours every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and six hours every Friday, preferably from 10 am to 1 pm MTW, and from 10 am to 4 pm on Fridays. We would like to train our associate in the latter part of May and have them start in earnest in the second or third week of July. Please see below for the job’s requirements and pay.

Requirements: This job is in-person only. Applicants will have the ability to lift up to 30 pounds (books can be heavy) and the ability to be on one’s feet for two hours or so. A willingness to learn how to carefully handle books from 500 years ago to the present is required. A high school diploma is required for this position. Our candidate will have the ability to commute back and forth to our office. We are especially interested in a candidate with strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and a willingness to ask questions and learn.


Pay: $20 per hour.
