Flexible: Typically: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm; occasional late night/early morning hours as necessary. Possible evening and weekend hours after training and pending unassisted access to the Center.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

No experience required - all training provided. Freshman/sophomores are encouraged to apply. Must be a citizen of the United States to apply and gain access to this federal facility. The federal hiring process takes several months to complete before the anticipated starting date and requires additional paperwork and forms.

An on-campus position is available at the US Dairy Forage Research Center (located just east of the School of Veterinary Medicine) for an undergraduate student seeking laboratory experience and an opportunity to work with dairy cattle. Freshmen and sophomores encouraged to apply.

Duties to include: laboratory glassware cleaning; collection and recording of experimental data within the laboratory and at the research farm (in Prairie du Sac, WI); collection and processing of feed and forage materials related to dairy cattle studies using laboratory balances, drying ovens, sample grinders, etc.; collection of experimental samples from research study dairy cattle including feces, urine, blood and ruminal contents; assisting with laboratory analysis of feed, forage and fecal materials using standard laboratory procedures along with reagent preparation; assist graduate students, post-docs, interns and other research team members from other lab groups with collection and preparation of research materials when necessary.

Notes:

All duties require in-person work and cannot be done virtually.

A valid driver’s license is required.

Must be a citizen of the United States to apply.

No experience necessary - all training provided on the job.

US citizen with valid driver's license.

Physical Demands

Must be able to stand for prolonged hours. Willingness to work with dairy cattle (supervision always provided) and collect various samples from them.
