Department Overview:

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses. 

As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!

Evenings after 4pm and/or Saturday mornings.

Hourly $26.00 to $31.00

Program Description: 

MSCR’s Adult Fitness Program welcomes individuals of all ability levels and focuses on building strength while promoting overall health and well-being in a positive, encouraging atmosphere. MSCR’s fitness classes are engaging, high-quality, community-centered for adults of all experience levels.

General Description:
Lead dynamic adult fitness workouts that keep participants motivated while ensuring every class is well-structured, energizing, and taught with a strong focus on safety.

Job Description & Duties: 

The instructor creates a welcoming, inclusive environment where all MSCR participants feel supported and motivated. They lead safe, effective workouts with clear demonstrations and cues, offering modifications and progressions for all fitness levels, while fostering a positive community that builds strength, confidence, and connection.

Program Dates: We are building our talent pipeline for this role, with hiring anticipated now and in the coming months.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• 1+ year of experience teaching group fitness classes
• CPR/AED certification (or ability to obtain within 45 days of hire)
• Familiarity with MSCR programs and mission
• Commitment to maintaining current certifications
• Ability to create a welcoming, inclusive environment for all participants
• Strong ability to visually cue and demonstrate exercises clearly
• Reliable transportation to and from class locations

Preferred Qualifications:

• Current fitness or group fitness certification
• Experience leading group fitness classes for participants with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and goals
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and engage participants effectively
