ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW: Olbrich Botanical Gardens is home to 16 acres of outdoor display gardens and a 10,000 square foot tropical conservatory. The outdoor gardens include 10 unique specialty gardens and received the 2022 American Horticultural Society Environmental Award. Indoors, the tropical Bolz Conservatory exhibits an extraordinary collection of exotic plants and orchids complemented by colorful birds and koi. Olbrich is committed to a culture of sustainability and education so that everyone - including future generations - can experience and learn about the fascinating world of plants and gardens.
Olbrich Botanical Gardens is operated through a public/private partnership between the City of Madison and the Olbrich Botanical Society (OBS), the non-profit organization that raises over $4.7 million each year to support the daily operation of the Gardens. Together both entities manage a combined operating budget of $7 million and an additional yearly capital improvement budget. OBS helps lead capital campaigns, including its most recent campaign (2020) that raised $6 million to build new greenhouses and the Frautschi Family Learning Center.

Position Summary/Job Duties: | This year-round, hourly position is responsible for facilities operation and custodial labor performed at Olbrich Botanical Gardens. Employees in this position are responsible for preparing the Botanical Center for operation, including opening and closing; performing all custodial duties; setting up and taking down tables and chairs; operating facility equipment including public address system, audio-visual equipment, and power scrubbers; adjusting thermostats; performing or overseeing the beginning and clean up of rental events; and performing customer service as the only staff member present, in many cases during evening hours. This work is performed independently and requires night, early evening, and weekend availability.
HOURS: This is year-round part-time work, approximately 10-20 hours per week, including nights and weekends. Work assignments vary from week to week with hours based on scheduled events. Minimum number of hours in any given week are not guaranteed.
This position does not require a driver's license.
Current recruitment is to fill three (3) vacancies. This recruitment will be used to fill additional vacancies that may occur within the next three (3) months.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare the Botanical Center for operation. Operate the power scrubber; clean bathrooms; perform routine custodial tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, cleaning windows and doors; and set up tables and chairs, P.A. System, and audio-visual equipment.
- Oversee the facilities and respond to the needs of rental customers and caterers.
- Work with caterers to be sure proper procedures and cleaning are complete.
- Maintain good customer relations with visitors. Answer questions from users and the general public.
- Enforce Olbrich rules, regulations, and policies.
- Perform related work as required.

Physical Requirements:
Employees in this classification must be able to lift and move objects weighing as much as 60 pounds. In addition, work may be performed outdoors in all types of weather, including adverse weather conditions.
