Department Overview:
Overview: We are an organic orchard-based Cidery located in Madison, WI. The orchard is located in the beautiful Driftless Area of Wisconsin where we grow English and French bittersharp and bittersweet apples for our brand of apple brandy and ciders. We grow apples only for the production of cider and apple brandy. We are currently the largest organic producer of such apples in America. We distribute in Wisconsin and Illinois and we have a restaurant and retail store, called Orchard, located in Verona that features a local and organic farm-to-table menu. This position will be at the Cidery, which is located at 1537 Gilson St. in Madison, just off of Park Street on the south side right off the Wingra Creek bike path. Headquarters for The Cider Farm is on the orchard in Mineral Point, Wisconsin.

Position Summary/Job Duties:
Position Summary: The Cellar Hand will work with the Cidermaker with most aspects of cider-making for Cider Farm Brands and the packaging for Cider Farm Brands’ apple brandy products. The position is part-time and work hours are flexible, averaging approximately 10-20 hours per week depending on the season and the phase in the production cycle. Our ideal candidate wants to learn more about specialty cider production/craft beverage production. No similar experience is required, but a willingness to learn and pay attention to details is. Many folks cross over from hospitality to production and this role has the potential to grow for the right candidate down the line. Reports to: Cidermaker
Qualifications:
Requirements: • Strong attention to detail, particularly around sanitation. • Proven ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently • Desire and ability to learn and figure out the best way of doing things. • Ability to lift at least 60lbs. from ground level (our sixtel kegs weigh that much) and be physically capable of standing for long periods, climbing ladders, kneeling and crouching. This is an active job. • Strong communication skills and at least good computer skills with reasonable proficiency with email, Google Docs and Sheets, and own a smartphone that can access these docs. • Any experience with any food-related packaging equipment, including bottle lines, keg washers, and fillers is a huge plus, as is any experience with a pallet jack. • Decent taste in music/willingness to put up with the cidermaker’s eclectic music choices.
Physical Demands
Ability to lift 60 pounds consistently. Job requires a fair amount of standing and the ability to move in somewhat confined spaces, kneeling and climbing ladders.
