Position Summary/Job Duties:

We are looking for a responsible and engaging college student to help our 11-year-old son with his after-school routine Monday through Thursday.

He attends Edgewood Campus School, just off Monroe Street, and we live nearby, near the Henry Vilas Zoo and St. Mary’s Hospital.

He is a bright, kind kid who does well in school. He has some suspected ADHD/ADD, so he benefits from a little extra structure, prompting, and help staying focused and on task, particularly with homework and his after-school routine. He loves chess, coding, Minecraft, and golf, so someone who shares any of those interests would be a bonus!

Responsibilities:

  • Pick him up from school

  • Help with homework, primarily math, science, geography, Spanish, and occasionally language arts

  • Help him stay organized, focused, and on task

  • Make sure he practices piano

  • Occasionally take him to play or practice golf

  • Hang out with him and provide general supervision until we are home

Schedule: Monday–Thursday, approximately 3:00–5:30 p.m. Occasionally, we may need help until 6:00 p.m., if that works with your schedule. Ideally, we are looking for someone available all four days, but we are open to applicants who can commit to three days per week (for example, Monday–Wednesday or Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday).

We are looking for someone who is dependable, patient, encouraging, and able to provide some structure while also building a positive relationship with him. Ideally, we’d love to find someone who enjoys spending time with kids this age and can be both a positive role model and a fun person for him to spend his afternoons with.

Please reach out with a little information about yourself, your availability, and any relevant experience.

Qualifications:

  • Current college student
  • Reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, and current auto insurance
  • Good driving record
  • Dependable and able to commit to a consistent weekly schedule
  • Patient, encouraging, and comfortable working with an 11-year-old
  • Comfortable helping with middle-school-level homework
  • Able to provide structure and gentle redirection to help with focus and follow-through
  • Responsible, trustworthy, and a good communicator
  • Prior experience working with kids is a plus, but not required
