Department Overview:
The Wisconsin Union, often referred to as "the heart and soul" of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has enhanced the lives of members and visitors since it was founded in 1907. Since 1928, when the doors to Memorial Union opened, the Wisconsin Union has served as the living room of the UW-Madison campus. The Union connects students, faculty, staff, members and visitors through shared cultural, social and recreational events and experiences.

Position Summary/Job Duties:
This position will work to advance the processes of the Wisconsin Union Permanent Art Collection with a focus on accessibility. Must be a current student in the School of Education to be eligible and photography experience is preferred but not required. Under the supervision and guidance of the Art Collection Manager, this position will:
Document artworks in the Union Collection for digitization and archival purposes
Assist in the organization of the Wisconsin Union Art Collection and collection items
Assist with unpacking & organization of artwork, archive files, and other items
Assist with the installation of artworks as needed
Potential for research on an area of interest in archive holdings to craft a learning experience/program/tool from that body of research
This position is a collaboration between the Wisconsin Union and the School of Education. The role is designed to provide the student with an opportunity to actively practice what they learn in class within a professional setting.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have a declared major in the School of Education student to qualify for this internship
Art, Art Education, and Photography majors highly recommended to apply
This position will be for the Fall 2026 Semester to continue in the Spring of 2027
Student Status
To be eligible for the Wisconsin Union positions, you must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or highschool (at least 16). It is not permissible to hire a person as a student hourly employee if they are taking credits merely to be eligible for student hourly employment.
