Department Overview:
The Wisconsin Union, often referred to as "the heart and soul" of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has enhanced the lives of members and visitors since it was founded in 1907. Since 1928, when the doors to Memorial Union opened, the Wisconsin Union has served as the living room of the UW-Madison campus. The Union connects students, faculty, staff, members and visitors through shared cultural, social and recreational events and experiences.

Anticipated Schedule
This position is expected to work Badger Bash and other special events hosted by the Wisconsin Union thoughout the year. 2026 Badger Bash dates are 9/12, 9/19, 10/3, 10/24, 11/7, and 11/27. Other event are often held during the evenings and weekends. Schedule flexibility is important.
Minimum Hour Expectation
Most events will require 3-6 hours per shift.

Hours vary depending on event but most will be during the evening and weekends.
Unit Location
Events are generally held at Memorial Union and Union South but occasionally at other nearby locations such as Library Mall.

Position Summary/Job Duties:
Help plan and set up for Union events, sponsor activations, and special promotions, including Badger Bash and Terrace/Union festivals
Act as a brand ambassador at select events, greeting guests, sharing information about sponsors and Union offerings, and handing out samples or promotional items
Support Sett Recreation activities such as bowling leagues, tournaments, trivia, and game watches
Help brainstorm creative ways to make activations more fun, interactive, and memorable for guests
Help coordinate event logistics, order supplies, and communicate with union/campus partners including Dining, Marketing, and Facilities
Occasionally help cover the admin suite front desk as needed
Provide friendly, professional guest service on behalf of the Wisconsin Union and its sponsors
Qualifications:
Availability for a flexible, event-based schedule. Hours vary week to week and may include daytime, evening, and weekend shifts depending on event or activation needs
Friendly, outgoing personality and comfort talking with new people
Strong communication and organizational skills
Comfortable answering phones, greeting visitors, and handling basic office tasks
Ability to lift and carry event materials, up to 20 pounds
Interest in events, activations, or sponsorship is a plus, with a willingness to learn on the job.
Student Status
To be eligible for the Wisconsin Union positions, you must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or highschool (at least 16). It is not permissible to hire a person as a student hourly employee if they are taking credits merely to be eligible for student hourly employment. Review UW Policy 5003- Student Hourly Employment for more information. If school is in break period (summer, spring, winter), applicants must intend to enroll in courses the following semester.
