Department Overview:

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.

As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!

Program Description: 

The MSCR Marketing Team leads promotions and outreach strategies to educate, engage and recruit customers of all ages, helping them discover enriching and fun programs. Our goal is to increase participation and awareness in MSCR programs.

MSCR is looking for a creative, enthusiastic and reliable assistant to work part-time with the MSCR Operations/Marketing team to align marketing and social media efforts with overall brand goals. The Graphic Designer creates a variety of marketing materials across multiple media platforms.

Job Description & Duties: 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or related field preferred (or commensurate experience) with a minimum of 2 years’ experience. A strong and unique portfolio that showcases design principles, technical skills and creative problem-solving.

Work Location: MSCR Central and various MSCR program sites across the city. Primarily perform work in an office environment. Work with frequent interruptions and moderate noise levels. 

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Over 18 years of age, high school diploma or equivalent
• Proficient with Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator & Photoshop) & Canva. 
• Ability to demonstrate a high degree of creativity to promote MSCR Programs (brochures, postcards, posters, advertisements, large signs/banners, website & social media graphics, presentations, etc.).
• Ability to function and contribute as part of a team. 
• Ability to follow instructions and take constructive feedback. 
• High attention to detail. Excellent organizational and time management skills. 
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize workflow while still meeting deadlines.
• Knowledge of print processes and production standards.
• Effective time management and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with the staff team. 
• Reliable transportation to work site and other MSCR programming sites.

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Photography and video editing skills are a plus. 
• Experience with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.).
• Strong writing skills.

Application Instructions:

• Daytime shifts between 8am - 5pm with occasional remote options available.
