Position Summary/Job Duties: | We are looking for a kind, dependable, fun college student to spend time with our 16-year-old son and provide respite for our family.
Our son is highly functional, verbal, and a lot of fun to be around! He is an autistic teenager who enjoys watching sports, playing video games, bowling, watching movies, and getting out and doing things. He loves hanging out with fun people and having someone to share activities with.
He is fairly independent but benefits from some extra support with everyday things and getting out into the community. We are looking for someone who can be a positive role model, companion, and support person while helping him become more independent.
What you’ll be doing:
- Hanging out with him and providing companionship
- Watching sports or movies together
- Playing video games
- Going bowling or doing other activities he enjoys
- Helping him prepare or cook simple meals
- Helping him safely get to and from activities and places in the community
- Going out for activities, walks, food, shopping, or other fun outings
- Encouraging independence while providing support when needed
- Most importantly, being someone fun for him to hang out with!
A little more about the position:
This is not a traditional babysitting job. Our son is verbal, social, and highly functional. He doesn't need someone entertaining him every minute or providing hands-on care. Instead, we're looking for someone who can hang out with him, help him with things he can't quite do independently yet, encourage him to try new things, and provide a little extra support and supervision when he's out and about.
He especially needs help with things like cooking meals, safely getting to and from places, and having someone fun and reliable to spend time with.
