Ongoing and ad hoc. Thinking... we'll text or keep a running punch list and check in monthly (or every other month) to schedule a visit and agree on what you'll take on. Right now we have a short list we'd love to knock out over the next couple months—a towel rack, paint touch-ups, a fire alarm swap, hanging curtains, and a few light electrical fixes—plus whatever comes up after that.

Hourly $25.00 to $35.00

Position Summary/Job Duties:

We're looking for a reliable go-to helper for ongoing home repairs and small projects around the house. Think hanging a towel rack, paint touch-ups, swapping out a fire alarm, hanging curtains, and light electrical work like switches, outlets, and fixtures (always breaker off, like-for-like swaps only, nothing that needs a licensed electrician).

We'll keep a running list and check in monthly (or every other month) to go through it together and agree on what you'll tackle. We cover all materials and parts, and are happy to reimburse mileage if you need to run out for supplies—the hourly rate is for labor. Bonus if you're also up for some light cleaning that comes along with a project.

Qualifications:

  • Comfortable with basic home repair, and always turns the power off before touching any switch, outlet, or fixture
  • Ideally has done this kind of work before, or has some electrical/engineering background, we don't need a licensed electrician, just solid comfort with straightforward, like-for-like swaps
  • Comfortable speaking up if something feels outside your comfort zone, light switches and outlets are exactly what we're looking for, deeper electrical work is not, and we'd rather know than have you guess
  • Reliable, communicative, and organized enough to help manage an ongoing list
  • Own transportation (bus or car)
  • Comfortable with a dog in the house
  • Bonus: also willing to do some light cleaning

Physical Demands

Standing, kneeling, reaching overhead, occasional ladder use, light-to-moderate lifting (e.g., installing a ceiling fan)

Application Instructions:

Please email mkwasny@gmail.com with the subject line "Handyman Helper Application" and include:

  • your general experience with home repair and light electrical work
  • a couple of photos of past projects or a reference or two, whichever's easier for you
  • your general availability for a monthly or every-other-month check-in

Please also let us know honestly where your comfort level ends. That's helpful for us to know upfront.
