The Madnorski Juniors middle school program, previously called the DEVO training program, is a chance for both new skiers and graduated Trail Kids ages 10-14 to focus on having fun and enjoying winter with teammates. Athletes practice both skate and classic technique, build aerobic capacity, and incorporate elements of agility, balance, and strength training. Athletes are encouraged to compete in local meets, with options to participate in Wisconsin Nordic Ski League races. The season runs from the end of November through mid February.

The middle school coach organizes and leads practices twice a week (Monday and Wednesday evenings, 2 hours per practice), and attends and supports 5-6 local races (half day per race, no overnight travel) and the state sprint meet (usually 2nd weekend in Feb). Opportunities to support regional race weekends are available but not required (i.e. State Distance in Cable).

The middle school coach will cultivate a positive and inclusive team culture with an emphasis on having fun, improving fitness and technique, and developing sportsmanship. The coach in this role will manage volunteer coaches, coordinate closely with high school coaches to carry out plans for practices and races, and communicate the practice and race schedules and any changes with families. Madnorski has practice plans available for use by the coach in this position and an existing network of volunteer coaches.

• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
• Experience coaching youth athletes and/or working with middle school youth in educational settings.
• Knowledge and experience in both classic and skate skiing techniques.
• Must successfully pass the US Ski & Snowboard Safesport training and background screening, with no convictions or active investigations involving harassment, abuse, or sexual misconduct.
• Has or willing to earn a US Ski & Snowboard level 100 coaching certification.
