Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, English, Theater Arts, or other content related field
- 2 years of teaching experience with K-12 students preferred. Student teaching experience will be considered.
- Graduate level coursework, completed or in progress, is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver engaging content to middle school students is preferred.
- Energetic approach to learning
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well with students, administration, and support staff
- Experience meeting the needs of all students
- Respect for individual differences and individuality.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Experience working with high school students
- Experience teaching content area subject

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Instructor for the Forensic Science course for the Accelerated Learning Program. Program dates are June 29- July 18, 2025. The instructor’s main role in the program is to refine curriculum and be a teacher and a facilitator of learning. Instructors can expect to work with a class size of up to 16 high school students. Course description listed below:

Does the prospect of solving complex problems sound enjoyable to you? Are you drawn to mysteries and investigation-themed movies and books? If so, this course will continue to foster your investigative and logical thought processes as you work to solve crimes. This advanced course in forensic science offers a deep dive into the critical aspects of evidence testing and criminal psychology. Designed for students with a strong foundation in science and an interest in criminal investigations, this course focuses on the analysis and interpretation of physical and biological trace evidence, such as hair, fibers, blood, toxins, and DNA, as well as the psychological factors that influence criminal behavior. Students will discover how entomological and anthropological evidence from a post-mortem examination can help solve a crime. This laboratory-based course will allow students to use logic and scientific inquiry skills to interpret evidence, analyze criminal psychology, and examine the legal implications of crimes.

Instructors are responsible for:
- Developing (or modifying) an engaging course with activities and lessons designed to provide high quality and fast-paced learning for advanced high school students.
- Developing curriculum following Badger Precollege templates and process (Complete Syllabus including course information, weekly schedule, daily lesson plans, presentation slides, and materials.)
- Completing all hiring requirements and trainings required by Human Resources at the UW-Madison
- Participating in staff orientation before the program begins
- Attending instructor check in meetings scheduled throughout the program.
- Attending opening and closing day events June 29 and July 18, 2025
- Leading daily instructional sessions M-F 9:00-:3:00pm, June 30 - July 18, 2025 for a group of 7-16 students
- Completing post program student evaluation materials.
