Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, English, Theater Arts, or other content related field - 2 years of teaching experience with K-12 students preferred. Student teaching experience will be considered. - Graduate level coursework, completed or in progress, is preferred. - Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver engaging content to middle school students is preferred. - Energetic approach to learning - Strong communication skills and ability to work well with students, administration, and support staff - Experience meeting the needs of all students - Respect for individual differences and individuality.

Position Summary/Job Duties:
Instructor and curriculum designer for the Introduction to Critical Reasoning course for the Accelerated Learning Program. Program dates are June 29- July 18, 2025. The instructor’s main role in the program is to design curriculum and be a teacher and a facilitator of learning. Instructors can expect to work with a class size of up to 16 high school students. Course description listed below: Do you ever wonder why some arguments feel so convincing while others fall flat? In what ways does human reasoning tend to go wrong? Why do people, including ourselves, sometimes hold onto beliefs that don’t stand up to scrutiny? How do we determine which of those beliefs are worth keeping and which might need to change? In this class, you’ll step back and critically examine your views, beliefs, and the reasons behind them. You will develop skills to distinguish strong, well-supported arguments from flawed reasoning and learn practical strategies to improve your own critical thinking. You will engage with a wide variety of materials, from classic works by great philosophers to contemporary arguments in popular media. Expect a lively mix of activities, including class discussions, problem-solving exercises, journal reflections, and interactive debates. Writing and reading assignments will deepen your understanding, while the final project and presentation will challenge you to apply everything you’ve learned. No matter your intended future field of study, the skills gained in this course—critical thinking, effective communication, and intellectual curiosity—will provide you with a solid foundation to thrive in college and beyond. Instructors are responsible for: - Developing (or modifying) an engaging course with activities and lessons designed to provide high quality and fast-paced learning for advanced high school students. - Developing curriculum following Badger Precollege templates and process (Complete Syllabus including course information, weekly schedule, daily lesson plans, presentation slides, and materials.) - Completing all hiring requirements and trainings required by Human Resources at the UW-Madison - Participating in staff orientation before the program begins - Attending instructor check in meetings scheduled throughout the program. - Attending opening and closing day events June 29 and July 18, 2025 - Leading daily instructional sessions M-F 9:00-:3:00pm, June 30 - July 18, 2025 for a group of 7-16 students - Completing post program student evaluation materials.
