Department Overview:
The Department of Physics has many stories to share — about our fantastic students, our world-class research, and our long-running outreach programs. We are looking for a communications student assistant to help share them through a variety of digital media. We also have several events we run and are looking for a student to help ensure their success.

Schedule:
This role is expected to be approximately 10-15 hours per week with flexibility around classes and exams. The person in this role can either work entirely in-person on campus in Chamberlin Hall or work a hybrid schedule with a mix of in-person and remote work. A portion of, but not all, hours worked may be chosen to be completed outside of "standard" hours (9am-5pm M-F) if agreed upon by student and supervisor.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate is goal-oriented, reliable, and has a willingness to learn and grow. The ideal candidate also has the ability to work well independently, has the ability to think creatively about social media and strategies for engaging audiences on social media, and demonstrates attention to detail.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Knowledge of Instagram and a willingness to stay up-to-date on social media best practices is a must, as is an interest in executing quality events. Experience creating engaging social media posts is preferred. Interest and/or experience in graphic design, story writing, and/or research communications is a plus but not required. This position will include on-the-job-training; as such, you are encouraged to apply even if you do not meet all of the above requirements.
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Social Media: - Write, gather and create engaging content for the department’s Instagram account (optional: LinkedIn) - Think strategically by developing and maintaining a calendar for social media posts and engagements - Track ongoing metrics to demonstrate success Events: - Assist with event logistics: planning events, working with staff to place orders, prepping materials in advance, take photos at events for social media and department archives - When possible, attending events to ensure they run smoothly, - Eventually, the goal is to have this student intern lead one or more events Other duties/opportunities: - Write articles for newsletters (digital and print) as needed (if interested) - Design posters and event communications and other graphic design (if interested) - Perform other duties on an as-needed basis
