Department Overview:

The Science & Engineering locations include the AMP Library (Chamberlin Hall), Geology Library (Weeks Hall) and Steenbock Memorial Library. Schedule:

Currently looking for staff to work Spring Semester, and beyond.

Typical shifts range from 2-4 hours during individual availability.

Fall semester library open hours include (open & closing shifts extend 15 minutes):
M-Th: 9am-11:30pm
F: 9am-8pm
Sat: 12pm-8pm
Sun: 12pm-11:30pm

Note: All new hires are required to work one daytime shift a week for the first semester (between the hours of 8am and 4pm)

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

$14.00

Current student status
Ability to exercise good judgment to make independent decisions
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Reliability, and commitment to working assigned shifts

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

We are looking for individuals who are;

Willing to learn and apply library policies and procedures,
Able to identify, analyze, and solve or refer problems,
Excited to provide excellent customer service to all library users,
Committed to a regular schedule, attendance and communicating about any changes.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Applications will be considered by supervisors of the Science & Engineering libraries locations as they are submitted. Those not hired in this round will be considered for future positions as they open up throughout the semester.

The Science & Engineering locations include the AMP Library (Chamberlin Hall), Geology Library (Weeks Hall) and Steenbock Memorial Library.

Circulation staff are the front facing customer service for the UW-Libraries. We assist with and refer our users to services, materials and spaces. We also backup other locations to provide continuity of service.

Job duties include:

Greeting and connecting with library users,
Checking out and returning library materials,
Fulfilling and processing user requests,
Filing and processing physical library materials,
Assisting and educating users about library services,
Creating and maintaining welcoming spaces for our users,
Communicating about the library website and request options,
Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands:

Staff in this position typically do the following with or without assistance:

Navigate the library physically
Are stationary for significant amounts of time at a library desk
Push library carts
Bending and/or stretch to shelve books
