Qualifications:
● High School Diploma ● Currently enrolled in US higher educational institution or have obtained higher educational degree from a US institution. ● Energetic approach to group facilitation and teaching. ● Strong interest in working with diverse communities ● Strong communication skills and ability to work well with students, administration, and support staff ● Respect for individual differences and individuality.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
● Experience working with high school students ● Experience in an international capacity (been abroad or live in U.S. as international student) ● Experience with college-level research preferred. ● Experience with middle or high school students preferred. ● Experience with group facilitation preferred.
Position Summary/Job Duties:
The main role is to help facilitate discussion, encourage students to reflect and develop meaningful discussion in the course content as it related to their higher education goals. In the EA role, you will help prepare students for field trips, guest speakers, share their own educational experiences, and help students better understand their options in higher education. In the RA role, live in the UW campus residence hall with the students and other RAs during the program. They are responsible for supervising students and planning non-academic activities. Specific responsibilities: ● Attend required Badger Precollege and Youth Compliance staff training(s) prior to the program beginning. ● Assist the instructor in carrying out their responsibilities for students during all class times. Discuss with the instructor what their expectations are for you and students. ● Supervise students during different classroom activities around campus, including field trips, lab activities, other transitions around campus as needed ● Share own experience as relevant (in formal or informal speaking sessions) to help students understand college student experience ● Attending EA trainings and debrief session before and after course completion ● Working as a team of RAs to plan and implement afternoon, evening, and weekend activities. ● Support students' academic experiences in the program and foster continuous communication with all summer staff. ● Be a role model and while upholding policies for students and maintaining a professional relationship. ● Partake in the social and emotional growth of students during programming ● Participate in all RA and large group staff meetings and orientation. EAs can expect to work with eager, curious students with a strong interest in learning about higher education in the United States.
Physical Demands:
Role will run activities and supervise students on field trips throughout the UW campus and larger Madison city area. This can involve a substantial amount of movement every day.
