Position Summary/Job Duties:

Instructor for the STEP Program

The instructor’s main role in the program is to learn from the developed writing course curriculum and be a teacher and a facilitator of learning our creative writing courses. Instructors can expect to work with a class size of up to 16 middle school students. Course description listed below:
What does it mean to be creative or create? What inspires authors across platforms to develop a visual expression of their imaginations? If you enjoy the opportunity to disappear into the pages and worlds of your own writing, this is the course for you. Through individual and collaborative storytelling, this class explores the world of imagining and representing our creativity through various mediums, modes of expression, and avenues of inspiration. Students have the opportunity to explore different forms of inspiration through excursions both on and off campus and learn the skills to take their ideas to the pen and page. This class is designed for avid readers and writers who enjoy these activities and are serious about improving their skills, broadening their repertoire and expanding their creative practice. Additionally, this course will help prepare students for writing classes at the high school level.
*Please note that we will be offering a creative writing course for Week One and Week Two STEP. Each Creative Writing course can be taken individually or in combination with each other as these two courses will explore different material, concepts, and creative writing formats. Students considering participating in both sessions of STEP could take Creative Writing course both weeks to have more in-depth exposure and time working on their writing skills.

Instructors are responsible for:
● Developing (or modifying) an engaging course with activities and lessons designed to provide high quality and fast-paced learning for advanced middle school students.
