Department Overview:

The Office of Student Assistance and Support (formerly named the Dean of Students Office) supports the academic mission of UW-Madison by providing student assistance, support, and referral services to students in their living-learning-working communities. OSAS is an assistance office helping students, faculty, and staff when a student might need extra support. The office works closely with students, faculty, staff, family, and community members.

Schedule:

The desk operated from 8:00AM-4:30PM Monday-Friday. Staff may be asked to occasionally assist with SOAR and other tabling events which may extend workday to 5:30pm

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

$15.00

Qualifications:

• Able to work 10-25 hours a week during Summer 2025
• Must be a currently enrolled UW-Madison student
• Have completed at least two semesters in higher education
• Maintain a minimum of a 2.5 GPA

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Superb oral and written communication
• High degree of organization and attention to detail
• Knowledge of the University
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and ability to learn quickly
• Desire to learn more about Student Affairs and its role in the university community
• Able to hold confidentiality in a high profile office

Position Summary/Job Duties:

• Position only available for Summer 2025. Possible extension into academic year, based on need of the office and performance
Office:
1. Serve as first point of contact for visitors to the Office of Student Assistance and Support and provide reception support.
2. Staff the front desk and support with emails, calls, in-person communications with students, faculty, staff, family members, and community members.
3. Light office and administrative tasks including printing, copying, scanning, filing.
4. Routinely clean the office suite and front desk for a clean and safe environment.
5. Schedule appointments for staff members
6. Assist with office projects and run errands on campus
Outreach Support:
1. Represent office through participation in on-campus tabling events, including SOAR, throughout the Summer.
2. Set up table, greet and answer questions from students and family members, positively represent the Office of Student Assistance and Support, replenish supplies.
We are looking for enthusiastic and customer-centric individuals to help our office’s mission to provide support and assistance to the campus community.

Physical Demands:

Sitting: The position requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
Lifting: The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
Walking: The role involves occasionally walking to campus locations.
