Department Overview:

The Business and Math Bridge (BAM) program supports incoming undergraduate business and pre-business students placing into pre-calculus math courses. It is an early start program that takes place before fall term classes start and allows students to move in early and to develop their math skillsets ahead of their first semester of college. The program will consist of math content and study skill development as well as networking opportunities, a mini case competition, and exposure to core business constructs, all framed through a math-centric lens.

Primary goals of the program include:

1. Cultivate a growth mindset in our students, especially related to their math capacity and problem-solving skillset

2. Combat imposter phenomenon

3. Build community amongst incoming students

4.Give students an opportunity to re-take the UW Math Placement exam

August 11th, 2025

Anticipated Hours Per Week:

Several hours of pre-program consultation and training; two days of training for the Undergraduate Peer Mentors (16 hours); roughly 9:00-5:00 pm for the 5 days of the program (about 40 hours total for the program)

Schedule:

Pre-program consultation: flexible schedule (3-5 hours total) between August 11th-August 19th; training Math Bridge Undergraduate Peer Mentors August 19th-20th; BAM program runs from August 21st-August 26th (must be available for all program dates, including Saturday and Sunday)

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

Minimum: $22.00 Maximum: $22.50

Qualifications:

Must be located in the United States (international students are welcome to apply, but we cannot hire students who are residing in another country)

Must have earned at least an AB in Calculus 1

Overall GPA of at least 3.25 (3.5 GPA + Preferred)

- Note: if you don’t have a GPA for your graduate degree yet please note your cumulative undergraduate GPA

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Teaching or tutoring experience in math required (alternatively, demonstration of math expertise through relevant advanced degrees or courses of study required if no teaching experience)

Interest in creating inclusive and welcoming learning spaces

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Collaborate on the training and instruction of the Undergraduate Peer Mentors leading small groups of students during the program

Provide consultation for questions and math expertise to Undergraduate Peer Mentors and to students participating in the program

Work under the supervision of the Math Bridge Coordinator

Complete training for the position (both in person and asynchronous)

Physical Demands:

Must be able to meet with students in-person
