Department Overview:
Promoting Awareness, Victim Empowerment (PAVE) is a student organization dedicated to preventing sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking through education and activism. We reach out to students through our interactive peer education workshops, volunteer and all-campus events, and awareness-raising campaigns. Our vision is a campus community that practices healthy sexuality, expects and offers respect, and celebrates pleasure so enthusiastically that is incompatible with violence. Qualifications:
Must be currently enrolled as a student at UW-Madison Exceptional organizational and verbal skills Commitment to PAVE’s mission statement and to preventing all forms of gender-based and sexual violence Willing to commit necessary time to the position in order to help the organization be successful in engaging volunteers and evaluating PAVE events based on the experiences of PAVE’s membership
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Knowledge of sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, and primary violence prevention strategies Ability to follow-up with, motivate, and support PAVE volunteers Experience working with volunteers or student organization members Fluent in Canva or other presentation apps
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Create curriculum and facilitate activities for the bi-weekly general body meeting in collaboration with the PAVE Chair, Events and Outreach Coordinators, and Peer Education Coordinators. Holds and leads the start of semester volunteer orientation and end of semester volunteer celebration event. Works with general members to respond to requests, provide leadership opportunities, and carry out the mission of PAVE as indicated by volunteers and PAVE’s mission statement Responds to all members in a timely manner and ensures general members are included in and informed about PAVE’s action on campus Sends out update emails to the PAVE member email list regarding engagement opportunities and other PAVE news in collaboration with the PAVE Communications Coordinator. Leads general members efforts for PAVE’s involvement in Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, Stalking Awareness Month in February, and Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April Communicates needs of members to PAVE leaders Pursues events for PAVE members to table at and coordinates the staff and volunteers that will table at these events Supports other PAVE staff and programming as needed, including recruiting for the Peer Education Program, providing updated marketing and events information, and supporting organization-wide events and outreach.
