Qualifications:
Applicants must be UW-Madison students currently enrolled for the Fall 2025 semester. Additionally, applicants must have completed general chemistry or an equivalent at UW-Madison (Chem 103/4, 109, 115/116) or another institution. Preference will be given to applicants who have completed organic chemistry at UW-Madison (Chem 343/345) and/or organic chemistry lab (Chem 344) or at another institution.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Successful applicants will have an interest in chemistry and learning the more technical side of what makes a lab run smoothly and safely, as well as a basic background in safe operating practices in a chemistry lab. Successful candidates will be able to work alone as well as in a small team, communicating with other student workers and staff supervisors to develop proactive and reactive solutions to problems encountered in the lab space. Successful candidates will demonstrate professionalism and a willingness to learn new skills on-the-fly as the semester develops.
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Stockroom assistants will be responsible for supervising and ensuring undergraduate labs run without incident. This includes acting as a point of contact for students and TAs with questions, preparing chemicals and maintaining lab space and equipment, and other tasks deemed appropriate by the lead technician.
Physical Demands:
Standing for periods of time up to 1 hour, completing repetitive tasks, occasionally helping lift or move objects weighing up to 30 lbs.
