Department Overview:

This laboratory is within the Department of Surgical Sciences in the School of Veterinary Medicine.

Schedule:

Over the summer a student is expected to work 32-40 hours over normal business hours (8am-4pm). During the academic year scheduling will be determined based on student availability but will occur during normal business hours.

Qualifications:

Undergraduate student interested in science and biology would be qualified for this position. Biomedical engineering majors would also be well suited.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

The ideal candidate should be comfortable with Microsoft Excel and open to learning additional software programs as needed (e.g. Microsoft Illustrator). Strong communication skills within teams and with the public is also necessary. Prior laboratory experience is not necessary but preferred.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Duties and responsibilities may include email and phone correspondence with pet owners, data entry, participant recruitment, tissue sample collections and processing, cell culture maintenance and histology. Additionally, work may include assistance with projects associated with finite element modeling and biomechanics.

Physical Demands:

This work requires some physical demands associated with working with client owned animals. However, computer based work is less demanding and roles that only require desk and computer work will be considered if needed.
