Department Overview:
The Chazen Museum of Art makes its home between two lakes on the beautiful campus of the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Within walking distance of the state capitol, it sits squarely in the heart of a vibrant college town. Featuring one of the best views on campus, an art-filled bridge connects the historic Elvehjem building, built in 1970, with the Chazen building, built in 2011. With a permanent collection of more than 25,000 objects, from vessels of ancient Greece to prints by Kara Walker, the Chazen is one of the largest museums in the state of Wisconsin. Two expansive buildings encompass 163,000+ square feet, making it an integral cultural force within the Big Ten. More than 180,000 visitors come through the Chazen’s doors each year to enjoy the permanent collection and special exhibitions. Admission is free for all and includes programs for students, families and community members, all provided with the museum’s unique brand of Wisconsin hospitality.

Schedule:
Exact schedule is negotiable. General availability Monday–Friday, 10:00am–5:00pm; occasional weekends and evenings. Attendance in bi-weekly education meetings is mandatory and essential to the success of the program (exact time/date dependent on team availability). Attendance in pre-semester training is mandatory. These are scheduled for Monday, 8/25, Tuesday, 8/26, and Wednesday, 8/27 from 10:00am-3:00pm.

• Must be self-directed with the ability to proactively take initiative and anticipate needs. • Reliable and dependable in communication and fulfilling commitments. • Experienced in active listening and connecting with audiences of diverse ages and backgrounds. • Ability to problem solve in flexible and creative ways.
Position Summary/Job Duties:
• 60% - With support from the Chazen’s education team, develop, lead, and co-lead participatory group visits for all ages with methods and content that align with varying interests and learning goals. Ensures each group visit adheres to general museum visitor guidelines and educational best practices. • 20% - Attend and contribute to regular meetings and trainings; proactively respond to scheduling requests from the Educator Coordinator. • 20% - Research artworks on view as well as best practices for museum education.
Physical Demands:
Working in-person. Regularly moving around the museum. Speaking loudly / projecting voice.
