Department Overview:
The Center for Dairy Research (CDR) works for dairy farmers and supports the dairy industry through technical support, research and training. We are the largest of six dairy research centers in the United States, and focus on cheese, specialty cheese, cultured products, yogurt, dairy powders and butter. Each year we conduct around 40 short course training sessions and 70 industry tours, visits and meetings; participate in about 15 community engagements and host three annual industry events.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
1. Food handling skills, or the interest and ability to learn. Examples include: cutting cheese in various shapes, sizes, amounts; spooning yogurt into sample cups; pouring liquids into sample cups; preparing grilled cheese sandwiches, pizzas and cheese wheels. 2. Position Summary/Job Duties:
1. Assist short course training staff with set-up and execution of short course lectures and activities, visits, and tours. 2. Maintain cleanliness of the CDR Training Center by assisting with clean-up and general maintenance of a clean and sanitary environment. 3. Stock refreshments for visitors and assist with food set-up/take-down during meals and breaks. 4. Perform set-up, open and close procedures for short course training sessions as needed and prepare training spaces for visitors + tours as directed by the CDR Communications & Training Coordinator & CDR Events Coordinator. 5. Engage in food preparation activities as needed for short courses and visitors with direction from the CDR Chef & CDR Dairy Foods Trainer. 6. Perform data entry and documentation using our internal customer interaction software (FileMaker), Outlook and share files. Manage duties with the CDR Inbox. 7. Work with the CDR Communications Specialist (writer/editor) and Multi-Media Designer to assist with capturing photos, video and potential creation of other electronic images, documents, renderings, etc. 8. Distribute electronic certificates for short courses as directed by the CDR Events Coordinator.
Physical Demands:
some lifting; stocking (printed booklets, beverages, food); cleaning (wiping tables/counters, sweep/mop as needed); food prep; standing in training center and pilot plant; walking upstairs and back and forth throughout training center; moving tables and chairs.
