Department Overview:
The CALS Research Greenhouses support research activities across multiple disciplines within the life sciences and agricultural engineering. These greenhouses are primarily used by the following departments: Horticulture, Agronomy, Plant Pathology, Soil Science, Entomology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Botany, Forest and Wildlife Ecology, Landscape Architecture, and Integrative Biology. The greenhouses support the research of around 50 scientists at any given time, who employ hundreds of postdoctoral, graduate, and undergraduate students.

Schedule:
Academic Year: at least 10 hours per week. Scheduled hours will be between 7:00 am-3:00 pm Monday, 7:00 am-5:00 pm Tuesday through Friday. Potential for hours outside these time frames once competency has been demonstrated.

Qualifications:
Must be able to commit to at least 10 hours of work per week. Exceptions can be made during student breaks, exam times, etc. Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to obtain UW driver authorization preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
No experience or special skills necessary. Training and education will be provided
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Students interested in the plant sciences and/or greenhouse operations are strongly encouraged to apply, since this position provides an excellent opportunity to learn from seasoned professionals and gain hands-on experience in protected plant culture. Job duties: Perform cleaning, maintenance, and organization tasks. Assist with greenhouse user needs. Engage in learning and development activities related to protected plant culture and the plant sciences. Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to work in varying environmental conditions
